The rights are so tempting. Last time I surfed it around that size or a little bigger I took a couple of rights only to get stuck inside for so long I paddled back to the left and back around on each occasion.

Great spot, horrible road to get there.

Great shots Casso! Dreaming of Lombok.....figured the family needed white sandy beaches. We'll see how the surf shapes up

Yep got some sweet rights last year, ok on the short board but just too hard to get back out on the SUP and yeah unless your very lucky you usually end up giving up the fight and going right around and out near the left.

And no that is not me, I don't wear a bikini.

Radman, Nusa Lembongan and Lombok came up trumps on our family list. We will see if the research paid off

Great shots Casso, and looks like you scored it without a heavy crowd too,,
I have only surfed it on a short board but would love to SUP it one day soon. Inspiring stuff.

Nice one Mel. That looks like a fun size - and a lot easier to get back out on the rights.

Hi all,

Yes,This is a blatant pimp, but Balian is a great place for a SUP and I have a lovely private place for rent about 3 minutes walk from the beach, checkout www.balianbreezes.com
personally I think the best time for surf at Balian is in between seasons, Oct-Nov and March-April as it picks up heaps of swell but isn't too keen on the trade winds. having said that, I got back a week ago after scoring waves everyday with light winds pretty well all day except one when we ended up having to drink Bintangs at about 2pm cause the wind came up, only to realise our mistake when it glassed off again at about 4.30.
Oh well, what can you do?

Staying sober for the LAGO is the challenge of that place, the wind usually drops late arvo but it's hard not to hit the bintangs when the wind kicks in around midday.....I find kiting helps......sometimes.

Nice pics Casso.
What is the water quality like over there?
I heard it is not great...

Water quality varies depending on the amount of rain,as it is a river mouth. In the dry season it's pretty good but after a lot of rain it's pretty dirty, but I don't know how to say it but it's just 'dirt' dirty and I've never had any problem with ear infections or the like.
