im in the process of making a new summer board for myself, and i thought some people might be in interested in the process.
i wanted a board that was light and responsive. I was really happy with how the last board turned out, but theres always room for fine tuning and trying new technologies and processes
Heres the last boards APS file
And heres the new CUT. tweaked the rocker, widened the nose and thinned out the nose and tail on this one. Decided to go stringerless on this one as well. should complement the new glassing method were going to try out.....
shaping/scuffing early next week. More pics to follow!
Looks like we are at about the same stage I'm making an 8'8" quad - hollow wood SUP with balsa skins.
holy crap youve done well shep
that looks very nice
cant wait to see it finished off
quad or thruster???????
Nice looking boards, like the shapes. Whats thickness skins are you using Shep and are your rails solid balsa using 5mm sheets?
I agree with shep the HWS are heavier out of the water but you dont notice it in the water and they do carry drive/momentum thru the turns. However I have a 6'2" timber skinned composite thats solid balsa rails and pretty light and I do notice the swing weight compared to my 6'6" HWS.
Just about to place an order for some 100 by 6mm paulownia next week for a couple of kite boards so might have to up the order to cover a 9' SUP as well.
cheers
