Its true. SUP lacks the specific benefits of a short board and Shortboards lack the versatility of SUP. They both have limitations, but with the a major design evolution happening right now (with testing of all styles and lengths in all conditions being part of it) the gap is narrowing.

Personally I ride StandUp for the versatility and know that there is more specific equipment out there if I need it.

I completely agree with you AA. That's why I like to do both, best of both worlds.

They would hardly have noticed that I snuck my 6'3 up under the bow in that boat as well as my SUP. Be great to surf it both ways.......

Looking forward to seeing the Hull Rippers. That new photo of TC floating around is on one isnt it?

Hey Chris, yep thats Tom tearing it up on a Chambers Hull Ripper.

We both agree!
The beauty of StandUp is its versatility. Short-boarders will make them short to ride like short boards, long boarders will flatten them out to feel like their favorite Mal and racers will stretch them out too make them go faster ( and some will blow them up to drop rapids). A the end of the day there will probably be a better vehicle for all these applications but none will come close to the versatility of an StandUp board, IMHO.

Mate horses for courses, I ride everything and I did not bag sup's ,own two champ.
I am just too big to ride a SB now day's your day may come and you will see the light.

Throw your paddle away and ride a longboard and maybe you will understand.

Hmm,sure you've seen Jackson Close ride both sup's and longboards and try telling someone that LB's are good for nothing

Shoulder is recovering well thanks Mr Dogman. The lack of decent surf has made it a lot easier. With out a doubt StandUp has helped my recovery. I was flat water paddling last weekend, 3 weeks after popping it.

Piro's we will see some Chambers Hull designs down here very soon. One 3 times world surfing champion has one under his wing and fly's back with it next week. The first boards to come out will be All-round Chambers hulls. Big and wide from 9'6 to 10'6. Hull Rippers in Autumn if all goes to plan.

As for you 'Mr doubting Thomas', 'over the Hill', WA guy. The proof will be in the pudding so to speak. I would be putting my money on Blane once again putting big smiles on everyones faces as he has been since the beginning of

Good to hear shoulder coming along. Got my first cutback today in 4 months without serious pain. 3 hour solo paddle in waist high peelers best physio I have ever done.

Make sure you send a demo HR over here. The 9 11 went nice today real good rail to rail for a 31 inch wide board

Any news on Blanes race boards.

Hey Teatree, the word is that we should see a 12'6 Hydrid by Winter.
The race board program was put on hold when Blane discovered that some of his race/DW designs actually surfed really well.

Anything that smells of progression in surfing pretty much gets Blanes undivided attention. Anything that paddles better and still rips in the waves has to be explored. So that is where Blane/PSH is at right now, developing the new hull rippers and hybrids.

So no Race boards from PSH in the near future, other than Hybrids which should make awesome DW, BofPaddle style boards.
