Have a close look...
The positive;
Here's a very powerful hack by Pancho Sullivan in Mexico, in 2006. I was one of several lucky ones to see the final day of surfing at the 2005 Vans Triple Crown Hali'ewa Event (from the beach), and watch a brilliant display from Pancho. Jarrad Howse surfed really well on the day, and some of Mick Fanning's power carves and air drop floaters were totally unbelievable in the final... Mick broke a board, and that probably cost him the win to be honest... But you couldn't deny Pancho either. My vote goes with some good old school power carves every day... Pancho. The swell built most of the day, and it was triple over-head on the best sets for a chunk of the day.
The negative;
With some trepidation I suggest that this photo sums up why SUP surfing will always be a poor cousin to "short-board" surfing... You just can't do it this tight, or throw water like this...
Positive - Kyron goes hard though!
Another positive - awesome photo hey!!?
Post some "Powerful Hack" photos here!!
might as well throw in longboarding as the other poor cousin simondo
imo sup surfing comp wise doesn't have its own identity.
trying to do short board moves doesn't rate against short boarding and you have to compare the two because thats what they trying to do. don't get me wrong the top sup surfers a very very good surfers, but its slow and lacks critical power and speed.
you get more action at a local board riders comp then a top sup comp.
the noosa comp with the 10' boards was well received. maybe more style and finesse is needed.
i'll cope a blasting here, but the way things are going with guys paddling boards under water because they are so small (and still not able to deliver the sb goods) the comp scene will cannibalise its self with only the odd freak popping up for some much needed freshness.
but how long can this current direction last
it will always be a poor cousin , in the eyes of shortboarders. Good sup riders should be able to pull bigger hacks because they have the paddle to leverage off.
ogsup you could have found much better pics of people riding sups. by posting that pic has proved simondos post correct . great pic grom man. and beaus is good for a sup in small surf
Love my stand up surfing but not even close to the turns able to be done on normal short boards
Check out this one of Dane Reynolds for example

My question is this: do you have any less fun-slash-stoke .... I mean I love looking at Tha Dogmans vids - he looks stoked up to me no matter what he's up to (which is usually lots) ..... then there's this cool big grom Kyron ..... then I see Hilly above me .... you get my drift
late edit: Sorry Towny I see you've posted up Tha Dogdude too
Dude its Pancho Sullivan, the bloke does hacks like that when he turns around from checking his mailbox.
gotta remember we are all just "playing" in the ocean
some just more serious than others
anyway weren't we talking about hacks!
Just have to add my two bobs worth. You are comparing elite riders moves to the general public. I was out on Sunday on a break further out than what "crawlers" usually inhabit. As we were getting some good waves they came out to join us - but scored very few. They were less than half my age. Right equipment for the conditions! (I also have prone boards).

Body surfing, body boarding has been around in a format that would be recognisable to todays participants for centuries beyond recorded history. It continues to evolve grow, stoke and blow minds.
Longboarding has been around in a format that would be recognisable to todays participants for around sixty plus years. It continues to evolve, grow, stoke and blow minds.
Shortboarding has been around in a format that would be recognisable to todays participants for around forty plus years. It continues to evolve, grow, stoke and blow minds.
Stand Up Paddleing has been around in a format that would be recognisable to todays participants for around six years. It continues to evolve, grow, stoke and blow minds.
What manner of witless gibbon would presume to gaze into the crystal ball and asume what will or will not be possible in another millenium of wave riding.

Let me put it another way.
Hands up anyone who does'nt think that hack would be twice as hard with buckets blown twice as high, had Pancho been an athlete in his late twenties who had been on high performance SUP's since he was eleven years old.
Scary Huh!!!!

That specific turn from Pancho was considered the best manouver on the ASP World Tour in 2006.
Sick turn, very very very sick wave!!!
Until you can get a smaller rail and narrower tail on a SUP I wouldn't think there is much chance of a turn like Pancho's turning up...equipmnet at the momnet is too prohibitive....same with long barrells on a SUP you see heaps of guys pulling in but then they slip down the face and get clipped at the bottom beacuse the rail is so fate and the tail won't let them hang high and tight wher they need to be...its more board design/dimensions than ability....
All jokes aside
Somewhere out there in television land is a spindly eight year old who is wobbling around on his old mans short board using a cut down Kialoa. He's not busting down the door yet but he's as stoked as hell, loving life and laying the foundations. In fifteen years time he's gonna flip the top of your head and bamix your brain!!
At the moment the best we have are the likes of Kai and Keahi and lets face it, they are pretty bloody good. But FFS they've only been doing it for two or three years max. Relax...chill...enjoy. Let the sport evolve, take as many meandering turns as it needs...good surfing will always be good surfing.
Stop trying to bury the baby!
Cheers

There's different forms of the hack, pending which craft you are surfing.
A good hack on a SB,LB and Sup are all good hacks.
Nice Troll Simondo
What a funny thread, I have nothing this is self explanatory
Edit>> I didnt red thumb you mac before you start getting all testy
Not a hack but former international and legendary big wave surfer Daniel Kereopa was making some big moves at the first rnd of 2013 Hyundai Longboard Tour at Raglans Manu Bay . The 2nd rnd is happening now at Piha in conjunction with NZ surf national's. We share over here mac
