You do make some very good points in those posts though!
Here's 1 minor problem though... For SUP depending on your size, there is minimum width and volume you need to simply stand up, and be able to paddle the damn thing. But on critical waves, in the really steep parts, you actually (sort of) don't want those volumes, and a board that wide...

But hell yeah, imagine Pancho doing some hacks on a SUP. Hilly, thanks for reposting Blane!! I was reminding BillBoard how well PSH boards can go!

And just to round it out, five years ago average size for a SUP would have been in the ten foot plus range, now at the sharp end their eight and under. With advances in materials and technology my guess is the pros will be riding boards in ten years time which will be hard to distinguish from short boards.
It would be a very brave, or foolish man who would say "never" with regards to performance parameters that are being re defined on a daily basis.

I dont think you appreciate the laws of physics....it is still going to take "X" amount of board for a 80kg guy to paddle while standing up....magic materials or not, SUP boards are never going to be as thin or as narrow as a true performance SB

I noticed nobody has mentioned the evolution of land yachting and their potential for hacking in the future. Nothing like 2" of water after a downpour to hack up the local carpark.

unless you are going to have a hollow core and fill with helium....it wont mater how strong or light a material is, lets say a board weighed 0kg, that 85 kg rider with a normally 7kg board is now equivilant to a 78kg...that is still 78kg of rider that a board has to displace to paddle...not sit on the water as we know boards are already at 50% underwater or more....but it still has to work somewhat at paddling.

it is what it is (and please I do mean the same goes for SB , LB etc etc here ) ,,,, and does it come down to the stoke / fun factor and I guess while we're at it - skill of the punter too H ???
