Thanks for all the updates on the placings. Slowly getting there but it seems there were a lot more mistakes in the official results than I first thought.

So far I've found at least 12 paddlers that had the wrong times/placings. That's 30% of the total competitors, which isn't the greatest advertisement for RaceTec Timing.

Here's the updated results page. Can't guarantee it's 100% but it should be a lot better than the official results:

www.supracer.com/the-doctor-sup-results-2013/

If you know of anyone else in the wrong spot let me know.

I'm sure it's easy to make mistakes with this kind of technology, but hopefully the organisers either figure out how this happened or go with a different timing system next year. Interesting to hear it happened in the Duel as well.

I don't wanna be a whiner, but the least you deserve when you pay to enter a race is to know where you finished. Whether you were first or last, like Stimo said, bragging rights are important!

Nah no mention of Age Divisions in the official results, only Board Classes.

Considering how much it costs to run a complex system like that, sometimes I think a pen and a piece of paper is a better way to go. Results aside, I understand the race was very well run so well done to the organisers.

Yep - can confirm that it was a really well run weekend. Unfortunate about Sat's results.
Pre & post race gourmet meals and beers, clear briefings, nice starts, plenty of safety craft etc.
Just reading through the comments, i would like to mention that Dean goes out of his way to accomodate the SUPs and acknowledge the support he gets from Ian at Starboard. I would much rather a professionally run race that is part of a ski and OC race than a SUP only race that is a shambles.
Unfortunately only 6 SUPs on Sunday...and they still gave out 4 cheques - how cool is that
Best 4 days (Thurs-Sun) of DW paddling i have had since Maui.

Definitely. Or an app like Race Splitter.

Though in fairness to the Ocean Paddler guys, they had 248 non-SUP competitors, which would have been a nightmare to record without automated timing chips. Gotta keep in mind we're only a very small part of a much bigger and more established race.

But yeah, it'd be easy for dedicated SUP races to ditch timing chips, seeing they're usually so much smaller.

We use Dez Blanchfield's Blast Race Management, and although there is no timing chip on board with the paddler so a race steward has to click a button as each paddler crosses the finish line, it is pretty bullet proof. The only errors occur with data entry finger faults and they are usually easy to fix quickly. But as you say, with entries over 200, anything not fully automated may well become a challenge for stewards.

Who paddled on Sunday Dave? Would have been another good run as that wind filled in. Looking good all week actually.

Thanks for doing this Chris. Scott McKercher was at least 30secs infront of me (Greg Kerr) instead of 27th.

What has worked well before for us is to have a basic low def no frill video camera stationed parallel to the finish line and running from when the 1st person is across the line to last person across. Play back the hard drive and your away.

Most of the time you can pick out who's who from the vid and the timing from the time stamp.

Not so good for splitting the 1/100 of a second finishes but may probably have solved most of your problems.

Sam, myself, Beau, Michelle and a couple of others. Not real serious, just a fun run with free beers at the end...and very generous prizemoney considering there was only 6 of us. It was a teams format - not sure why more didn't come considering how good the wind was...

Great event and I will be back again (with a little more training next time) regardless of age divisions, but it would be great to have some sort of acknowledgement for those of us in our 40' or 50's who know we have no chance of finishing anywhere near the top ten.

I'm know there was at least 3 O50's and heaps of O40's, yet I think only 2 12'6
