I am looking for more feedback on the BOP at Kingscliff.
I have had strong representation to make this race fully amateur. ie drop the prizemoney altogether and the entry fee to $55 and have one race on the Sunday
We will still have the amateur/novice river race in Cudgen Creek
I like it... I think SUPWA state titles should also do something similar rather than a straight leg race. This is proper BOP.
Is this one lap? If so why not remove the 1 km stretch,
and make it 6-5-4-3 then reverse. Might need to push the bouys out a bit and make em 500m. I truly think the landing and take off from the beach is not only challenging/extremely fun but from a spectator point of view there is some gnarly outtakes. Maybe 3 laps.
What you have looks great.
Remember you can't run this course one way and then reverse cos people will run into each other coming back the other way.
Leave it as you have it, perfect.

One suggestion; if you put the long leg at the start this means the fast guys will simply paddle well clear of the punters and the race will not be as tight.
If you put the surf section before the long bits it will keep the crowd bunched more for the start at least, as soon as the superhumans see clear water they're gone.
Just a thought.
Annnnd the inside return buoys are inside the offshore buoys which will negate any chance of paddlers running into slower (faster ) paddlers
Annnnnd .... The race will be run as a stand alone event .. No other surf events going on while the race is being run ..
So far the feedback to Lyn & myself is there is a lot more support for making the BOP
1. an amateur race with a $55 entry fee.
2. loving the course as shown
3. only having 1 BOP race on the Sunday as it is too hard for some paddlers to get away from work on the Thursday.
Lets have any more feedback before Sunday
cmc has some good points. however here is few things to consider in cmc reverse course. paddlers would be paddling up the surf zones which would give some carnage factor with the chance of being caught in side.depends how they read it and how brave they are.
the down side is they would be surfing against the wave which means white water riding in instead of the chance to surf 'down the point'. the more 'surfing' the better imo. the proposed course is right for 'surfing'
i do like the 'cmc' 1 km dw section before turning and heading home.
just saying

What are the details on the river race? Distance? course layout? Couldn't see anything on the website?
Thanks
At this time The River Course will Start 50 meters East of the Boat Ramp .... Paddle upstream under the bridges, to the Boat Shed turning Buoy ..... Paddle back to the Start Line ... About 5 ks ... The Start time for both races will be Posted on Sunday ... But both races will AM ( NSW Time ) Both BOP and River Races will be Am Starts ( NSW Time ) Keep the suggestions coming in !!!!!!
One other question mate, From the website:
"SUP Battle of the Paddle will be an open ocean endurance course. SUP Amateur races will be run in the Cudgen Creek. All SUP boards max 12' 6"
All competitors receive a competitors bag including a 1 t-shirt. All GWR participants receive a t-shirt. "
Is the board size limit only for the BOP race or the river race too? The entry details page shows a "SUP Under 14ft Category" which suggests there will be 14 foot and over allowed?
THE BOP IS 12'6" Maximum .... Thats a no changer ...
the start format for the BOP will be posted once we see what the conditions are closer to the event . But at this time it looks like a Le Mans start ...
The River Race will be an in the water Line start ...
Its great to see more people commenting on what you guys and girls want as far as a format goes .. All the comments are considered ....

There is a U14ft Amateur division for the river race to accommodate those that have 14ft boards.
There is no provision in the BOP for U14ft
thanks guys, thought the BOP would be 12'6 max, just the "All SUP boards max 12'6" threw me. Long way to drive with the wrong size board..
Look forward to the event. Thanks for the prompt replies.
FInal Dates Times, Rules and Fees Will be posted on a New Post sometime Tuesday ... This will include Surf and Race Events ..
