Well there you are...BP made the right decision (might have taken a few days to decide admittedlly)....when asked if he'd rather be in Noosa or Chistchurch when the quake hit he correctly answered "Noosa"

Hey BP

Hope you enjoying yr break in the lucky country. Also hope yr family/ friends are all ok after the early wake up call yest. Everyone we know down that way is fine but a little shook up. Some of mums friends even had their bad yard full of sewage over flow. Nice.

Anyway I saw this shot on the web today of the sunshine coast and thought you maybe getting some goodness back from higher above. Is this the case?

Sadly yes. This is what my work colleagues wrote after yesterdays assessment......

Bexley is basically New Brighton.

The final inspection of the day was of the suburb of Bexley, east of Christchurch’s city
centre. Bexley is home to what has been dubbed, “Christchurch’s worst hit street” (New Zealand Herald), and indeed there was some terrible damage there. Bexley is located near the Estuary of the Avon and Heathcote Rivers, and has significant adjacent wetlands. The level of liquefaction that was observed in Bexley, and particularly in Seabreeze Close, was not comparable to any area we have seen to date. Two days after the quake the amount of silt that sits in many people’s yard is up to (about) 50 cm deep (Figure 8). The yards in Seabreeze close are almost completely covered, except for driveways that have been shovelled clean,
reminiscent of snow cleared driveways.

The damage observed in Bexley was the most extensive that we’ve seen and can clearly be attributed to soil failure and liquefaction. It appears that somebody got something wrong when these homes were built!

Yeah New Brighton was one of the worst areas hit. Lots of flooding and road damage as well as the houses and sewers.

Here's a couple of pics from the Brighton area, the first is a service station forecourt which was lifted up about 1.5m

Wow...that's major earth shaking stuff.....& the half a metre of "liquifaction" is spooky also. As for the time factor they reckon maybe 15.000 years since that fault line misbehaved (though who would have been there counting :)

So after a lot of demos i got the choice down to 2 boards

mctavish 9'6 vs the lsd 8'4 fish

I was unable to demo the fish as it was out and the conditions were not good at all
A lot of nice boards about

I think the lsd may not be right for what i need, Not sure

I did not find out the litres of it either if anyone has them?

As i never got to demo the LSD 8'6 the people who have can i have a stability review vs the mctavish 9'6 please.

I know its shorter but its also wider there for maybe about the same

From what i have seen the rails on the mctavish are much more forgiving

Hi,

No i did not, but they look real stable wide and fat, Unless your asking about the mano range

I tried the corebans, nice boards well made, i did not get on well with them as the deck is domed, A domed deck and low rails makes the board more unstable for the general punter.

I injoy the boards with a flat deck i.e mctavish, LSD, And most of the PSH boards

The PSH 9'11 is awsome just a bit much board for here or i would of not let it out of my hands.

From my time in noosa, And a lot of info from the guys i come home with one fact, Progression takes time and in the world of SUP This is the key.

Sure most guys, girls in noosa are on short boards but they do rip on them and have been doing so since day one, same as the hawaians reason being the surf in on the back door steep and surfing in the only life, I.E always been on a board of some sort.

For my self, I am going shorter but wide and flat decked, But the rails play a HUGE part in this the board can be 30 wide but still unstable if the rails are realy low, The best all round short boards i found.

Coreban
starboard stinger, Starboard hero
mctavish 9'6... NOT the 9'0
psh WR
LSD 8'6 fish

To me everything else seems more progressive, But as mentioned you can ride any board if you have been riding long enough ===== Progression is slow
But the right boards first up is key.

Sure, If you want a short board first up go for it, it will be frustrating but it can be done, but even i tried thin in noosa i wanted the shizzza but after a few board i found i was having bad habits coming through, And it was seen by others

My fav boards that i would purchase this time round

LSD fish
PSH 9'11r or any of the 9'6wr
starboard 9'0 stinger
Starboard hero, but very mych a first board if you dont want a big mana ect
mctavish 9'6

There are many others but for these boards are more than enough progression for myself.
