That's alarming....and here we were looking across the Tasman at floods & tropical cyclones & more floods & thinking we were on the safe side of the Tasman. Of course we have a very shortsighted viewpoint of geological processes...what with lake Taupo being the site of an enormous volcanic explosion & Auckland full of slumbering volcanic cones. Total sympathy/best wishes for those in christchurch....they're probably having a very frightening series of aftershocks also

Presently in Tamworth at a conference but heading to chch on Friday night to do some post disaster work. Scary. It looks aweful and I am not really looking forward to it. Hope all is well with you south island breezers.

Hi, Guys

Things are bad here, It was unexpected and it hit with no warning and was so rough and hard hitting, I am now away form the area after my wife was missing for the night but now found.

Im not sure about standupper but his area is hit hard as well and they have been evacuated as has the whole area he lives in due to the cliffs being cracked and bolders falling off the hills.

The damage and loss of life is hard, and i cant put it into words, but all i can say is i am well and my thought go out to standupper and hope he is well and his wife and baby are ok.

A lot of people left chch as this was unexpected and no idea of what is next, And if we have another big one on top of this it will kill almost everything
The pictures you see on tv etc is just the city but but the suburbs are like this as well, and bugger all roads left or bridges left to cross as things are sinking still

Hey guys just got some internet access so having a browse of seabreeze to relieve the stress. My family is ok but we lost our house and are staying with friends for now. My parents and inlaws also lost their houses. No paddling for a while, boards are in storage and sea is full of sewage!!

Take care everyone
