WOO HOO!!!
This is my new Balin STORM SUP leggie.
I got it custom cut to my preferred length of 2.0mtr.
Balin leggies are MADE IN AUSTRALIA!!
I have now had a couple of surfs with this leggy and these are my thoughts on its performance.
The Balin standard storm are 9' and 10'.
I got mine at 2.0mtr cord length.
There is not much stretch if any at this length.
Yesterday arvo I tested the rope out by going under 8 in a row, starting out at about 6ft of whitewater, all in the line of testing , not getting caught inside.
Lots of tug on the first one, actually surprised me at how much jolting was put onto my ankle and knee joints.
I reckon about 2.3mtr (7'6")cord length will give some stretch with this 10mm leggy.
I am happy with the length, I can strap up and carry my board (8'2") down to the water comfortably and I love the length for retrieving my board after a wipeout all I have to do is tug the cord with my right leg and the board is right at hand.
I had a few wipeouts this morning and did not notice the hard tugging that I felt last night, probably because I was moving as fast as the wave when I came off in the whitewater.
I like short ropes and if you like short ropes you have to get one of these Balin Storm ropes or put up with the leggies stretching out of length.
If your chasing a good, solid, strong SUP legrope... bailin have got it spot on.
We should be seeing these in-store ready for sale by tomorrow!
We have gone through a stack of these and find it hard to keep stock!! the 7 and 8 ft ones seem the best sizes for SUP!!
I have finally figured out how to eliminate/reduce the leggy jerk from these heavy duty storm 10mm balin ropes.
Especially the short ones I like (6'6).
Simple really, when diving under whitewater, don't leave your leg fully extended backwards.
Pretend that your stepping forwards with the leg with the rope attached. When the wave hits the board your leg is then dragged backwards, no/reduced jerk. Especially when your diving under white water from a still position after a wipeout.
Hope thats clear enough.
Got the 8' Balin Storm and tried it yesterday. Surf was good but had sucky ending on the sandbank which really dragged the board away. Took a couple of waves to get used to it but was all good after that. Board tended to stay right way up and close which made retrieval quick and easy.
