Hey Oliver
We sold up in Sydney and moved to Murwillumbah 5 years ago and havent looked back. I have quality surf and diving north and south of my place including Cabarita,Byron,Kingscliff,Fingal,Kirra Snapper,Cooly all within a half hour of my front door and 60,000 acres of world heritage rainforest 15 mins away, the kids are in a great school and we have permacultured our whole block of land and living is sweet. I am pretty sure that last year Murwillumbah was voted as one of the top 10 places in NSW to live.Check it out mate I have a mate with a take away in town and can hook you up with an awesome burger with the lot and large chokky moove after your first winter morning surf wooooo
cheers Boof
ps I am not a real estate agent
Actually, try renting in Torquay or Ocean Grove for 12 months. Close to Melbourne, and an easy drive back to see friends and family.
We were from Bellarine Peninsula originally, moved to Sydney for 10 years, sold up, and moved back for a better life.
Even though we were very close to the beach at Avalon Sydney, the daily grind wears you down, you often feel too tired for the early surf, and when the surf is good you can get into trouble for getting into work late.... That's why you need to work for yourself....
Margaret River has all those things even tourists I have 10 acres for sale there with a house on it 5 k from one of the worlds best beach breaks.
680k and its all yours
A couple of points:
- You might want to try out your new country abode before selling up and moving there. I know lots of people who moved to "paradise" only to find it didn't suit them once they were there. Isolation, insularity, boredom, lack of services, etc
- Take my non-parent comment for what it's worth ... but, I have known several level-headed teens and a good thing is to find something constructive for them to obsess on. A good committing sport (surfing, climbing, flying, etc ... not footy or cricket, not sure about tennis or golf or motorbikes), music (preferably a technical form like classical or jazz), cooking, art (not sure about that one).
we live a few mins from some fun reef breaks - nothing much over 2-3ft but get to sup a couple a times week - windsurf a couple o times a week as well and every arvo it goes offshore during summer - and winters goes off across the state - 20 minutes from work, 45 minutes from the centre of the city and have some of the best beaches around - and some of the least known quality waves in the country 3 hours and 7 hours away. Hot summers and mild winters.
Might not be everyones idea paradise but works for me - and everyone bags it - except for those who know.
I don't think I'll move that far from where I am now in Fremantle, generally a pretty good place to live and raise a family.
Summer swell doesn't exist but during winter there is enough to get you by. And you are a short drive from the northern beaches or a quick boat ride to Rotto, where there are some great SUP waves.
Always have the dream of wanting to make the break to the south west, but I think that it would be a mistake to move to a place where I like to go for a holiday.
The drive south is now less than 3 hours, so weekend trips are more frequent now.
Totally agree Gorgo,
I have found paddle surfing is an excellent sport for young teens to obsess over keeps them super fit happy and right out of trouble.
phill
my response is very much different from the others...i like the brisbane city the most ...and would suggest you to stay there....
Yeah dont really know if you would be calling Portland the wrong part of Vicco then again I like waves with some power
Here's one place out of left field that I loved, Exmouth in WA. I grew up on the Goldie and then surfed all over OZ thanks to the military and I just loved Exmouth for the isolation, great waves, fishing and the community was great when I was last there in 2004. Live in Port Stephens NSW now, which is pretty good, but getting overcrowded as well, like everywhere north of Sydney. Wouldn't mind anywhere near Nowra, NSW, as well, great waves but cold water........my wish list
the best place in the world is where your at i just talked to a mate in japan he has been paddling in a very suss lake far as his concernerd its the best place in the world
Check out this for a cruisey SUP wave. The break is off Mandurah WA and I ride it all the time on my OC1 (outrigger canoe) I've now just bought a SUP so can't wait to get out and try it standing up! The longest ride I've have on one wave is over 1min 40secs. Check out the video.
Cheers
