Well my lads are 55 kgs and 5' 4" 13/15 years old and looking to get them into A SUB.
Any ideas on the right gear to chase. They aleady go for it on the surftech and garrett board.
I was thinking of another custom or starboard ???

Both Naish and Starboard also have very small boards that would be perfect for kids.

Cheers DJ, It would interesting to hear any feedback from anyone that has stuck their groomys on one , eg how their kids went on them and weight and so on

Hey Mick glad to see you survived the cyclone, what is the budget for the boards. If you don't want to hand over to much there is a back yard manufacturer around the corner that has done some kids boards for around $800, if you want I will try and get his number.

I have had mine on softboards, surfboards, mals and bigger sup boards. If it floats they can stand up paddle it. For more advanced surf riding have a look at the wiz kids from Oahu and Maui they are ripping.

Heaps of posts of Noah and the Riggs kid they are ripping on 7 footers. I am sure a custom guy can knock something up similar, may be heavy in PU or light in styro. Show us what you come up with

Hey Rod, the thing missed us by 150 k, all good, we had sthly (offshore) winds with 2 - 3 mt sets for a few days as it descended on us.
Mate if you can give me a number of your byard boy , send it , i was thinking i;d be parting with the 1300-1500 for a name board. The smaller sboard and the naish look a great little board.
Looks like you are in for a blow and a sh.tload of swell over the next week, good on ya.

Hilly, mi tribe are doing similar things to you guys riding my 6fters from yesteryear , a recent Martin wright 7ft fish, 9 fters, Subs, even paddled SUP out (with an outrigger paddle), several times an old rooster sailboard, but yeh they want to go out on some thing else and just get into it and have fun with a couple of others and the old man.

Hi Miko,

I have played around more than most with kids boards so here are some thoughts.

The Naish 8'10 is a pretty good popout and they would have it for a long long time.

The Naish 8.0 is fantastic if they are small and light 55kg no probs but they will need great balance.

I have had 2 Dave Boyd custom PU boards made and they rip! 1 is 8'9 x 26 x 3 1/2 long board style the other 8'4 a 26 x 4 super HP floates adult out to 70kg and shreads.

The DC 9'4 and 8'10 both work extremely well even with onhly 55kg on them

The Airwave Dean Snow boards are also excellent and definitely worth a look.

I have a few boards up for sale PM me if your interested.

Having a winter clean out.
