"Tentative at first, the adrenaline-junkie paddled to within 20 feet of the lava, before moving back from water that reached 200 degrees celsius in places, melting the wax on his surfboard and burning his feet in the process."

Do boards have a good warrenty against lava these days ? and what paddle would you reccommend, alloy, carbon, or home made mast ?

200 deg C is not possible at sea level. The only way it could reach more than 100 deg C and still be liquid is if it was under pressure.
