I had a fun little session at Collaroy (on Sydney's Northern Beaches) today.

I cranked up my new, home made, deck mountable video camera on my 11' Oxbow and this is the result:

Turned out OK, hey?

It turned out 'real' good...Brilliant.

I'm very impressed with your style...and a bit jealous..

Keep the vids coming.

Couldn't have asked for a better result than that. Sweet footage!

Did the suction cup attachment thing come loose at all?

Sam.

I just bought a $20 glazier's suction cup thing and strapped my camera to that. No holes in my board required. It's as strong as an ox - it didn't come off once.

Here's a pic of the one I bought off eBay:

I just use a cheap still camera which has the capability of taking video. It was only $110 with the water housing, again off eBay.

I start it recording at the start of the session and just let it go until the memory card is full. Some editing (taking out all the paddling) is required in Adobe Premiere then I slap it on YouTube. Easy.

Scotty - It felt ever so slightly different but not too bad at all. A smaller board may cause more of a disturbance.

Thanks to Jonathan who sent me the link with this thread.

Very nice video and footwork.
Been taking these kind of videos for a while now (even though the surfing is not even remotely close as good as Casso's).
In case you guys wonder how it comes out on a shorter board, here's a short one with the camera mounted on a 8.6:

The camera I use is a GoPro gopro.com/en/au/ It's attached with a quick release system to a small plastic plate that is stuck with a superstrong 3M tape to the board. All this things are available as standard accessories. They have a suction cup too, but for surfing I find the little plate better, because smaller and lighter. The plate stays on your board though...

Just in case, here's my youtube page with most of my videos:

I put the camera pretty much on every part of a surf and windsurf board...

Cheers.

Man! nice vid Casso, Gee you surf well under pressure,if I strapped that camera to my board I would get a bad case of the wobbly boot !! I was glad when I saw you fall in,[}:)] cause I was thinking he must have huge flat feet or something , was there a heap of hot chics checking ya out from the beach RE : The old paddle behind the back trick.
Mate I noticed you really lean into the paddle on your cutbacks that suckers really flexing !! have you snapped any paddles yet
Anyway its awesome and you've given me a few tips to try out !!

cheers mate

Great video Casso. You've inspired me to attach some leash plugs to my board and attach a camera. I don't think the footage I produce will be anywhere near as smooth as what you've managed to come up with, but I'm sure it will be a valuable tool to help me learn to surf.

Please keep the footage of your adventures coming.

Hey Casso thanks for the info on the camera mount.
Just another question... how do you strap the camera to the mount?
Thanks

Thanks for your compliments Toad. There is a bit of extra pressure with the camera, it's a bit like surfing in a contest. It makes you try harder though - knowing all you guys will be watching.

And no, I haven't snapped a paddle ... yet.

Go for it Oliver - it'll definitely help you improve you surfing. It'll force you to push you limits further.

Greeny - I'll take a photo tomorrow (with my other camera) of the setup so you can see, in detail, how I've done it.

Casso, I only just got to see this vid. Congrats, it is terrific stuff. For a novice like me, it is a bit like an educational video. I am impressed with your paddle work too, you really use it to full effect, and put a lot of force on it when you use it to brace yourself. Thanks for the tips on setting up in your other thread too.

Thanks Johnno. I sent a link to the MD at Global Surf Industries and said he should check out his paddle in "full flight". He loved it. In fact he has now commissioned me to make a special clip which he can put on the GSI website!
