You maybe able to increase the performance of your paddle even more through Bio mimicry. It has been found the tubercles on hump back fins allow them to reduce drag by a whopping 32 % and creates 8 % more lift compared to a flat edge. Company's are already using it in rota blades , fan blades ect.Could work for a paddle too.

yes but are they using those as a paddle or a wing? do they generate most their driving power from their tail and use those for stability/direction?

I would say power comes from their Tails , but the tubercles reduce drag.Might be like when you are told when swimming to not cup the hands but keep the fingers open.

my thinking is that as they are not a driving/power type implent then variations and different rules apply but maybe like the finger thing it will work???

go grab your paddle and gut slots in it
