On one of my lesh plugs there is some cracking around the edges of where the lesh plug is in the board. I use the lesh string looped between the two lesh plugs. Should I be concerned?

welcome to the breeze...post a pic of it. But I for one do not take any chances with leg rope plugs as a general rule......costs are minimal to fix whilst a flying board can be dangerous and very expensive to fix if it finds some rocks on its way to shore!!!!

I've seen this alot and I don't think it's anything to worry about.. btw.. I would run the leash off just one plug.. but others might not agree.... welcome.

Thanks for the assistance. Here are some pictures.

I thought that running the lesh off two plugs would have been stronger. Why do they have two plugs?

How big is the board?

That's a big heavy board.
I think it's best to run it through both then like you've been doing.

Should I worry about the cracking?

I'd like to explain why I think 'no'... It may seem a bit slack or irresponsible to some people considering the consequences of a failing leash plug.

I've had heaps of boards over the years with hairline cracks around leash plugs.. fin boxes.. deck boxes and around foot strap plugs on custom windsurfing boards and 99.9% of the time they will be fine.. Any flexing.. or expanding or shrinking will cause this and these boards do that alot.. 99% of the strength of the plug is below the surface not on the surface so it should be still 99% strong.

You could have them replaced if it makes you feel good.. or keep an eye on them and if they get worse.. or become loose.. or look like they may be taking water I would defiantly consider replacing them then.

also.. re the using only one side of twin plugs is because after talking to John Wilson at Balin (the owner) about this he told me that having an off set plug will cause a recoiling board (a smaller and lighter board) to turn as it comes towards you lessening the chance of being hit by the board.. He said that almost all people that have been hit by their boards were using a centered leash plug... It seemed to make sense to me.

Just because I have an opinion on all this I don't claim to be an expert and I'd love to hear what others think.

Most boards get that crack as they are different materials, expansion and contraction etc.

Not an issue had it on my 12er went under some mackers with one plug no issue. Snapped sh1t loads of ankle straps though.

You could be cowardly like me today & wear two leashes....one on each plug
But then again my board has only got one plug. But the big sets were 4 foot or so (15 foot faces) & Both legropes were fairly dodgy so gave me peace of mind when I was being hammered

This would be my main worry. Doesn't take much of a crack to let in water, especially going from hot sun to cool water.

Super Glue.

Serious? I thought a lot of SUPs were made from EPS, in which case the super glue will just dissolve a nice big hole in your board. Not sure about super glue and PU, but I'd be doing some tests first before applying it to a board.

To be honest I did not know SG would dissolve polystyrene, we use to use it on surfboard on minor schatterings.

I am curious, I will have to try it sometime!
