Hey Starlet,

I tend not to listen to crap like that. Like you said, if you and your mate were having fun then who cares.

Seriously how could anyone rate anyones surfin in the 1 -2 ft pidlidy little waves we had on the wkend.

I wouldn't worry about it mate.

You should come and do some distance stuff with us and the girls.

The more girls out there, the better it is. Makes it FUN!

Must be a real wanker to be worrying and commenting on how a girl is supping in 2ft surf Dont let it worry you, next time show the clown how good you go in 4ft surf More girls that sup the better

The only real contest that I know of is, who has the most fun!
So just enjoy.

There are only two rules:

1. Have as much fun as is humanly possible.

2. Don't spoil anybody else's fun.

Rule 2 is actually more important than rule 1 in that you really don't want to do something that actively inflicts distress on people and ruins their fun.

However, if the only thing you are doing is having fun and they are just annoyed because you are having more fun than they are ... go for it! You actually get more fun points.

Once you get your skills up a little you can actually enhance rule 1 by observing rule 2. Sharing waves and passing waves to others in the lineup is a really nice feeling and helps everybody have a good time.

Don't let it get you down mate, unfortuantely it seems to be human nature for people to have a go at eachother and criticise the other side/team - SUP/Surfing unfortunately a category no different to any other. We've all got to start somewhere, it's disappointing people criticise others when they're starting out and learning. I was appalled the other day when I overheard a guy at the gym laughing at an overweight person on the treadmill. In your case though, it sounds like he's probably having more of a go at SUP than yourself.

Short Board V Long Board
SUP V everyone else
Labour v Liberal
AFL V Rugby/Soccer/Union
QLD V NSW
Collingwood V Carlton
Yawn....!!! The list is endless.

Gordo is very right, its all about fun, so keep enjoying it and don't let one snide remark put you off.

By the way, Go Saints!

If i worried about what others thought i'd never wear my trend setting pink tutu and lime green g string to church of a sunday.

I guess what i'm trying to say is its not important what others believe, (disappointing sometimes yes) if we worried about that all the time you'd never get out of bed. What matters is what you think.

If your happy with your pink tutu and lime green g string who cares?

In my experience, those that put others down are usually 2nd rate themselves. They put others down to build themselves up. Those that are at the top of their profession or hobby or whatever don't need to put others down as there actions or abilities usually speak loud enough.

He/she sounds like a jerk!!

Plus your mutual friend isn't much better by relay that to you.

What that friend should have done is said "I think starlet has taken up the sport for some fun and exercise, from what I've seen achieving both and surfing well"

I hate when a friend doesn't back you up, even worse when they wait to see you next and kind of rub it in.

Stick it up em next session, get amped, go out try not falling to much, surf as hard as you can, hope he/she keeps falling off then to their face say "gee, never seen you fall off so much as you have today, maybe you should get a bigger board"

If you got something to say, then always say it to their face I reckon. Or even better if you don't have anything nice to say, then don't say anything at all.

Hey starlet,

Dont worry about what any turkeys say about the SUP, it is a very respectable sport & becoming more so every day, (providing everone respects each other)
Do you think short boarders would continue to bag SUP, if Tom Carrol, Laird, or Kelly was out with them on a SUB? Heeps of pro & x pro short boarders do it.
Keep having fun

Where do those sort of people get off acting like that?

Too much grief can happen otherwise during the usual 9 to 5 Monday to Friday, so why to people take it out into the surf?

It's all about enjoying yourself and having fun. Great that you are getting out there.
