Geez that sux cause I was told there stiffer and lighter! I was also told that that its what's most of his paddlers use. Oh well, I'll find out the facts for myself in a week:) cya cold still wa, hello windy Hawaii:)
G'day marcus
My first Downwind SUP was a hollow board I did not know Mark Raaporst actually shaped them because all the Downwind SUP's I saw at the time on my first trip to Maui in 1997 were all hollow. But it made me defect from Paddleboarding (
I love Downwind SUPing it's bulk fun, doing a 50k Downwind paddle today from Brunswick Head to the Alley for a worm up to the Pai'lolo Channel in 2 weeks )
I did a lot of homework you get 2 identical SUP's one hollow and one 100% styrofoam shaped you'll feel the difference I did and the 100% styrofoam will win hands down.
Plus my hollow SUP cost me a 3rd Place finish in the Opens Unlimited SUP solo division Molokai 2 Oahu 2008 because my hollow board filled up with water one kilometre from the finish line that shattered me as there was only 8 SUPs in the race that year and being the first Australian to go solo on a SUP, and so I came last. So in 2010 I had a styrofoam shaped SUP and smashed those 2 guys that beat me in 2008 by well over half an hour and got second to Dave Kalama
stoked.
Anyway it's all good as long as you're happy just like surf4fun said Doesn't matter what your on you will kill it.
See ya on Maliko next week or come to the Maui Seaside Hotel marcus and say G'day.
My first ever SUP
