I am keen to start doing some DWer on Botany Bay and curious about put in and exit points for different wind directions. Also if there are any regular groups that paddle this area that wouldn't mind a new very keen tag along.

Thanks in advance for any info.

This afternoon would be perfect.

Park south of cooks river airport runway underpass in the car park (where Hashams is), paddle up the airport runway out of the north wind and shoot down the bay to the Sailing Club at Dolls Point.....it's only about 6-8km but an easy fun one.

I'll join you anytime.

Like Supanimals says, the Sailing Club at Sanoni Avenue - Dolls Point is a good afternoon option on a Northerly. We used to paddle it in outrigger canoes as a training run. Nice hard slog into the wind on the way out, head straight towards the end of the runway, then nice assisted run flying back with the wind. If you are only going one way, like the above post, put in at the airport.
Another nice run on a Southerly - especially if you don't mind some solitude - is to put in at Bonna Point, Kurnell and head over Quibray Bay back towards Cronulla. If you don't mind an upwind, this can be a challenge, or you could skirt the mangroves to the East and get some shelter on your way out. Due to the shallow nature of this bay, you get some really nice parallel wind swell lines to play with on the way back. It's always good to do the uphill leg of the run first to get the blood moving. the Bay has lots of options, depending on wind and swell, but these are a couple of my favourites.
Keep an eye out for swell runs too, on a big swell outside the heads, you can catch and link little runners all the way back from the Caltex jetty to the sailing club on the right craft.
Enjoy, the Bay has a lot to offer.

Thanks guys. That's exactly the info I was looking for. I put in at rams gate this morning and paddled up wind then enjoyed the runs back but might see if I can get the partner to do a drop off up wind and meet me at the sailing club that way it's a win win for everyone:)

Hi Isiswolf,

I've done a few downwinders from Dolls to Kyeemagh in a southerly and round the other way in NE. My daughter's getting sick of doing the drop off so it would be good to be able to hook up with other keen paddleboarders. I'm going to join the Botany Bay Sup Club too. I'll send you my number via email

Cheers

Hi all

Had a couple cracker downwind runs on the bay lately, Cooks river to dolls point on the NE and Kurnell to Cooks River on the SE!
