Yes it's an interesting fin and I would love to try one.

The idea is not new.. It's been used for windsurfing years ago when everyone was trying to come up with the magic fin that would.. Not spin out or cavitate.. Go upwind.. Go downwind.. Alowe the board to turn and jibe without being fin-effected.. and also give good tracking and stability.. I think these hollow fins came about from the split fins and fins with canards in front of them.

I can imagine this fin working better the faster you are going and not so good at slow speed and especially when stopped.. I may be wrong.. Another dissadvantage is that they might be fragile and easily broken.

Let's hope Larry gets on board here to shed some light on what it's all about.

Welcome to 'The Breeze' Larry..

What are those two fins?.. Length and base length?.. and can you tell us more about them and how they work.. and why you designed them like that? .. For what purpose and conditions and what approximate board size they are designed for? ... Thanks.

Also.. Are they available to buy yet or are they still proto's.. and who in Oz sells them?

I'm guessing to get the jigsaw in there to cut out the inner shape without having to drill a hole first.

Maybe he uses an industrial type bandsaw and can't get the saw blade in there.. even with a hole?

Thanks DJ for the intro my friend. Got a call from Jeremy Riggs today to check out the Seabreeze Forum and chime in for discussion on the Aercor Concept Fin. The Yellow fin is where the idea came from which is a few I made in 1976 for a guy in the Santa Barbara, Calif. area. This yellow fin was called the Shadow Fin.

The purpose of this 9" Shadow Fin was to easily spin your surfboard tail around on a wave preforming a 360 for extra points in your contest heats and then ride into the face of wave as a single fin.

How this fin worked was, as you come out to the shoulder of the wave into the flat. You would apply weight to your front foot slightly bearing the nose of your board and grab your rail, popping your tail out and allowing the white water to spin you around creating a full circle called a 360. Mike Purpus was a master at this using a 3 1/2 rear fin doing the same thing. Then your board would feel alittle swirly until the wave started pushing you forward again. Once the wave created enough speed pushing you forward from the tail, your board would all of a sudden feel like someone grabbed the tail of it and the board would track tight again feeling like a regular single fin. We learn then that water didn't recognized the hole in the Shadow Fin until you leaned the rail into a turn. And only recognizing the outline of the fin going straight

The foil of this fin was also important to direct water flow when changing your direction on the wave. The front foil of the Shadow Fin is a 50/50 foil along with a 25/75 foil in the tailing edge.

The Shadow Fin and Jeremy Riggs Aercor Fin work different than a slot in Windsurfing. The slot in a windsurf fin causes you to loose lift and create drag for out of control conditions to have control. This does not apply in the Shadow or the Aercor Fin in the Stand Up World.

DJ,hope this helps give you and the "Breeze" family a idea of alittle history of the Aercor concept. I will later posts the stages and what started me and Jeremy going down this Aercor R&D road to our final fin ready to sell to the open market.

Also DJ, Do you know Evan Squirrel? And if so, how far away are you from Evan?
Will share more later my friend. Mahalo, Larry

Evan is in Byron Bay. Works with his Dad making beautiful Takayamas etc.

About 40 mins from the Gold Coast.

P.S DJ I believe Jeremy Riggs is making a downwind instructional type vid, this was a preview from what I understand.
