Anyone got any info on what's happening over in Fiji with the "World Tour" Event? Wasn't the down wind race supposed to be on today....

"After an epic day of action here in Fiji, history is made at the Namotu World Paddle Challenge, presented by Air Pacific, as Maui's Connor Baxter storms to a landmark victory on the long distance downwind run from Natadola Beach to Namotu Island.

Finishing 8 minutes behind, in 2nd place and also from Maui was 2x Stand Up Paddlesurfing World Champion Kai Lenny.

Behind Kai from New Zealand was Jeremy Stephenson, stepping up to battle ahead of Jake Jensen from Australia, Noa Ginella from Oahu and Slater Trout from Maui.

It doesn't seem like that long ago teatree was trying to convince Jake to get into sup and now he is up there mixing it with the best. With a number of good results lately in all different types if races its only a matter of time until he cracks a big win.

Got an email from Annabel Anderson today "I was the only girl who did the long distance race yesterday and it was brutal, 3 guys pulled out and it was a lot longer than it was supposed to be. All good though and it just makes you appreciate the days that you feel good! It was pretty cool to paddle past Cloud Breaks."

Annabel will be arriving in Melbourne on Saturday so check out the dates of the Starboard SUP Demo Tour and either book in for a clinic with Annabel, just drop by for a chat or try one of the 2012 Starboard demo boards.

Wonder how Downwinder went on his custom Namotu 12'6 board, made specifically for Fiji? Looks like he's in the video at the start of the race but not in the results list?

What a trip , just got home.Jake went really well and would have learnt a lot , he was made a few mistakes that cost him an even better result. He well and truly showed what he can do on the final day , beating Connor , Kai and just getting pipped by Slater in a run up the beach to determine outright third place overall.
The surf race was epic , with some really hard conditions , once you hit the reef the waves where jacking up and had quite a bit of power , if you got through the break unscathed you had a massive bonus , once outside it was back inside again only to battle gainst the current and waves again , before the run home. Most competitors had to back up 5 times on this one lap course to make it to the final.

Got to surf Cloudbreak , unfortunately it was far from epic , but good to be there any way.Not sure i would like to surf the place on the sup if it was bigger than 4ft ,The reef is gnarly

Had a great time , the event itself was a bit unorganized and getting boards to and from events was a real hassle and could have been real costly too if not for Victoria and Jeremy from NZ hooking us up with Woodie for some cheap boat rides.Cant be too harsh though first time , i guess they will sort a few things out for next time.

I can understand why Downwinder raves about Namotu Island though , wow what a surfers paradise that place is

Jeez Teatree you're a hard man to please. Every race started on time. You guys rang us the night before to say you were here. Jake then had FREE transport from and back to Namotu twice plus free transport from the mainland to Natadola not to mention the FREE lunches. Do all the other races send taxis to your homes to pick up the competitors before a race? We are always open to constructive criticism but everyone else had a blast and the amount of work that goes into these things is mindblowing.
Why don't you organise one yourself. Trust me it's a thankless task.

If your open to constructive crtiticism your facts are a bit skewed mate.If it hadnt been for woody on muskett that ferried us from their to namotu for $40 bucks each time , we where stuck paying $60 each way per person , we had 6 people who wanted to come and support the event. Here are some facts for you $100 to get boards from hotel to Ferry $120 to get boards from ferry to Muskett cove (thats after much negotiation to take them in the first palce) , Jakes Mum paid $120 to get to Namotu to watch his first race , whats the distance by boat 10Ks?
Paid woody $40 bucks for slalom race (awesome),Lunch was awesome and appreciated.Thought last day was suppoosed to be at muskett , family day .Did not find out till next day muskett was off and race was know at namotu , actually diidnt find out to jet ski come out to cloudbreak to infrom jake that race is no longer from cloudbreak to namotu but around the island instead. So to rap up we had 5 people stuck on Muskett that had no idea what was happening , both his mum and dad missed his last race because we had no clue where or what was happening. For the people staying on Namotu im sure they all had a blast , for the people not staying their , well forgotten is probably a good word.

Did i mention the Ferry then refused to take our boards back from muskett to the main island , so kindly woody accepted $100 to take them back in his boat and i gave Victoria & Jeremy $60 to organize transport from their to hotel.

Ask those who were not on your Island how well it went!!! I appreciate the work you guys put in to the event , but if your open to feedback take it , and make the event bigger and better next time.

I accept your criticism but remember I was a SPONSER and not the organizer. That was Watermans League. The fact of the matter is it costs 90.00 minimum for guys to take you out in boats. That is the going price and that is only for three hours. It will be bigger and better next year but what people will find out if you try and do it on the cheap it will end up costing you more in the long run

Im not crtiicising you at all , my post said a bit unorganized and it was.My suggestion would be for next time the organizers could let people know how to get to and from event sites , and the likely costs involved. We stayed a muskett primarily because the fun family day was going to be there. As said in my post we had a great time , but the gloss was taken off a bit because of the hassle and unexpected cost of getting to and from events , and the lack of corrospondence from the organizers. When you take your family across its not cheap.(i guess this depends on your definiton of cheap though).

So i really hope the event does get bigger and better , as it really is a beautifull place.I fear you have taken my feedback personally and that was not my intention.
