Anyone changing out the stock fins on your boards? Post your Board and fin size and your opinion for others info. Changing the stock 10.5 on my Naish 11'6 for a sweet timber cored clear 9.0 dolphin. Will post results. BTW get yor fins from "Shapers" on the Gold Coast (just google it) Paid $55 for mine, quoted $120 at local surf shop for same sized fin, diff brand.
Funny, I ordered exactly the same fin for my Stonker yesterday. I thought it was a good price also - fin looks sweet.
Yep, same one Oliver. Picked mine up today, very good quality at a great price. The guy who owns the shop has everything to do with surfboards and surfboard manufacture, inc some sup stuff (paddle covers etc.) If the fin goes as good as it looks, we will both be happy!
This is my setup.
Centre fin: FCS Fluid Fin 6.5" - Really nice thin foil with a little flex through the tip
Side Fins: FCS G5 Glass fins - Foiled both sides again with a small amount of flex
I really suggest trying a small centre fin as it definately loosens up your board. It made my old board feel and ride totally different.
After 3 surfs and two flat water sessions with the 9.0 fin I can say that it was a great investment.....easily my best performing investment of 08. My 11'6 Naish feels more lively in the surf and a heap easier to turn on the wave. coming from a short board backround it is nice to lean into a bottom turn and she comes with me instead of going straight ahead. Small change in stability as the board now seems to roll rail to rail quicker when paddling in chop etc, due to the smaller side surface area of fin pushing against the water (I suppose??) Well worth the $55 invest.
