i can't believe the fin has no damage, it made an almighty crack when it made contact with a large fiberglass object of unknown description!
holy crap you did a job on ya board
everyone whinges about fcs fins breaking
but i bet you wish the fin had snapped instead of the whole box breaking out and leaving you with that mess
patch her up and ride it to death
yewwwww
Accidents are bound to happen in crowded breaks - no matter how careful everyone is being.
Was shortboarding at Lembongan Island a month ago and had someone push their board from the whitewater and into the shoulder of the wave I had just taken off on (from in the take off zone)- then they had the nerve to give me a spray about being careful and they had right of way????? This is after me waiting my turn and not dropping in etc.. for 20 minutes. Saw this happen to others as well at this spot. Seems like the common courtesy of having to duck-dive some white-water so the rider on the wave has a clear path is a thing of the past??? or am I wrong in being the one who is always watching where the rider on the wave is and wearing some whitewater on my head for having some etiquette??
Not commenting on the Alley incident but just something I've noticed creeping in a bit.
When you say alley are you referring to Laceys as well? I tend to surf just laceys as there is a bit more room to move around and find a spot a little bit away from others.
this stack was a case of overcrowding and riders being out of their depth in crowded surf, i took off, saw the guy scrapping for the shoulder instead of taking a hit in the whitewater, so i set my line to bottom turn around him, as i got closer to him he has panicked and stopped paddling. i think i did a good job to not run over him with the main fin and also bailed just before impact to take the weight off the fins. just a surfing accident that happens in crowded surf.
i saw a girl paddling in as i was paddling out on that day with a gash on her face, she was doing the right thing, taking a hit in the whitewater and a grommie did a reo onto the foam and the nose of his board went into her cheek and she recieved 4 stitches. it was hectic out there!
Ive been hit by a clubbie boat , an oc1 and have had more than a few words exchanged with prone guys at that spot , i think if you want to surf their you just have to accept it and be on your toes. When paddling out i always go way wide and then come in and check whats behind me , when it has a bit of size.Caus i dont care what anyone says you cant controll a sup board in big white water.
You also have to be patient and pick your waves.but i wont surf their on weekends if its overly crowded.
