DJ,
These pics are awesome. I know what I'd be thinking at the top of that wave! And I think I need just a few more sessions in the surf before I could tackle that!! Ha!

This pic is just insane
You would think he would get sucked over anyway given the amount of water moving.

laird looks like he's on a mission to ride another bomb........but this time on a "SUP"

an aircraft carrier, a huge platform, a bluddy big chunk of "low performance" on the pinnacle of big wave spots.

he's dwarfing a lot of "extreme watermen"

whilst looking like a stocking stuffed with walnuts.

Yeah Laird as an absolute legend..imo.

For those who don't know it..Laird SUP'd across the English channel in 06 to raise money for Autistic children...Google it and you will find heaps.

He actually rode a Mt bike from the center of London down to the water..paddled across the channel..(big swells, rough conditions, wind, big ships etc)..and when he got to France he then Mt biked to the center of Paris.

He did this because his good friend and neighbor Don King (the famous water cameraman) had an autistic child and wanted to make a film about it but could not get the money to do it..So Laird stepped up..and did the channel thing to raise money for him....What a guy.

Don's film is called "Beautiful Son"..Goole it and watch the trailer..but have the tissues handy..it's very sad..I've not seen the finished film.

.

Oh yeah....Anyone into Laird should check out his latest DVD.."All aboard the crazy train"...It's brilliant...and even has some SUP'ing in it..

Here's a short youtube vid...

I can't see his walnuts..where are you guys looking?......just kidding.

How good is Laird in his first vid..Training for big wave surfing by carrying that big rock under water..and dragging that big log along the beach in the sand..Sheesh!

I have a couple more really nice recent pics of Laird..taken by Darrell Wong.

I once went to Doug Hunt's home when in Maui for a photo night to see Darrell's latest pictures..Like a slide night..He's an amazing photographer..and a nice guy.

Check out the board...Everyone else is going shorter and shorter..and Laird is going longer..I think this is a 14'er by about 26".

Windy Miller...There is often no reef showing but at Teahupoo the wave often breaks on to about two feet of water..with very sharp reef underneath.

I have seen the odd pic with suck rocks popping up as the water gets drawn back towards the wave....Scary stuff..Here's a couple more pics..

and that classic shot of Laird that started it all....Glassy or what..
