So ccc just to put me in the picture are you a s/boarder, L/boarder, or just another deranged mental case that thinks trolling is therapy.

Yes, people on many sites might argue that I am a deranged mental case who thinks trolling is therapy. Personally, in the right context I find it bloody good fun.

However, I do seriously surf and ride a SUP. As such, I want to ask a similar and hopefully more lucid question to CCC. Why are everyone so obsessed by dimensions, in particular going shorter?

I got it out in the surf this morning when another SUP rider told me to ride comps you need an 8'4", which he was buying. Likewise, at the Aussie titles I saw a couple of "champions" jumping up and down to gain speed instead of bottom turning. To me a lot of what is going on in peoples heads just is not translating into good surfing.

You really need to talk and surf with Jackson Close this guy has it sorted by a long shot, big lad riding a board that fits him so well.People sb,lb and sup riders get carried away with shorter to feel or look cool but it doesn't work for the average punter, just saying it.

So the thing is I don't believe the likes of ccc or the howling mut are in it for bloody good fun, yes to some it may appear that way but when it comes from people who don't even ride sup then imo it is not. Sure they're having fun but at the expence of others, don't hide behind false ID and lets see how brave they are.

Ask yourself would these same guys strike up a conversation or offer you a wave? or 10

Hey Mac,

there was a guy at the Raw Comp a few years ago ( the first time you and I met) and he paddled out on a nash 11.4 or 11.6 and everyone laughed at him. The usual crew were pulling wickety wack moves and he drew some gracefull big lines and as I remember got all the way through to the semis maybe even the final.

Watch Sharpie rip some big turns on his whopper same deal.

If your 45kg and can ride a 7.0 and do it well in all conditions and having fun fantastic.

You only have to look at the number of comp SUPers that have gone down board size lost all of thier style (IMO Style is everything) and confidence start to look like an axe murderer on speed and then disappeared out of the comp scene all together.

Walk into any SUP retailer and ask them where their volume is and they wont say 7.6 - 8.6. in fact they prolly have **** loads of small boards gathering dust in the racks.

Its not what you ride its how well you ride it.

I prefer "The best surfer in the water is the one having the most fun". People who only worry about who's riding what are missing the point

Hey surfershaneA, Sorry for the late reply as i have been busy with this thing called LIFE! After 2 pages of ** finally someone could read this thread, well done!

I agree with 62mac and bulldog pup. Always talk to people Who CAN surf, cause what you find is that 9 out of 10 people(ON Seabreeze) that talk volume and litres can not surf to save there Lives!
Buddy it all depends on what you want to Do with your surfing. If you can not afford a qiver, then look at your average conditions, what you want to do with your surfing(shorter Sup, gives you sharper turns, more in the pocket, but less glide, more unstable etc etc or bigger Sup, gives you more drawn out turns, more glide, more stable etc etc. All obvious Stuff really) and your surfing ability. Most real surfers SB and LB do not talk litres and volume, but look at the lines(Rails, Tail, Rocker etc etc) put it under there arm and then get out there! Get to as many Demo days and see what works FOR YOU! You could get made the best board made with the perfect Litres, bull**, bull** and it might go like crap, or it does not suit your ability. Do NOT Listen to the HYPE and Seabreeze carry on, like i said, find what works for you by getting out there, as i am sure that was how KS did it!
You will find that those people talk bull** are searching for a board that will make there surfing Better. This will never be the case as you could put JC or KS on any board and the would still rip. If you want to improve, then it is time on the water with your craft of choice..

As for the people who do not know me and think i am a SB or LB or SUP rider, then ask Lacey this one as i am sure he would Love to tell you my abilities, as he has been on the site from the START and knows most sup riders on the coast!

Again for those who are attaching me, my Name is Ben and please call me on 0412151279 if you have any issue to arrange a place to meet face to face to sort any issuse out. Or you can hide behind your computer screens as i stand by what i have SAID, SO WHY DON"T YOU ALL TAKE A CHILL PILL AND TRY TO LAUGH AT YOURSELVES as you are way to serious and could not see any of you sharing any waves!

Hey Lacey, All is well and working hard Mate. Been surfing at Fingal with NO crowds and also paddling over to Cook Island, so if you got a set of balls, why not come down and Surf Cook with me, 'IT IS SHARKY AS'

Well I really do ride a SUP. I have also only been at it for four months, but picked it up quick due previous surfing and canoing experience. And no, I don't have any fake profiles on this site.

Most importantly, YES, I do find all this talk about going too short annoying. Paddling a big Canadian canoe around bass fishing is a graceful and elegant thing as is riding a real longboard. If I want to ride a real shortboard I have a 5'10" in my quiver that shreds. Equally important, after learning how to relax on the ocean and rivers, I am happy to share a few waves.

@ CCC,

I agree all this talk puts a lot of presure on the average rider to go too short instead of getting a sensible board. For instance, I went to the recent Aussie Titles to demo a few boards. One of the competitors I was having a bit of banter with offered me his 8'4", but wanting to keep out of this trend and seeing the surf out of the comp zone was small and soft I grabed a 12' Hobie.

Wow, the 12' board went great. It was even a good noserider. My fisrt response to the rep was, "I don't know why more beginners don't go for a board like this". A couple of days later I borrowed it again so I could paddle my daughter on the nose. I am keen on a 8'11" Hobie so I can keep up with the comp crew, but after seeing how much fun I had on the 12' the rep is still keen to sell me the longer board. That was refreshing experience!

Better wax up and get back to life!

Somewhere this thread got really confusing and now just seems to be a dick measuring exercise..

Oh and i went smaller as it was easier to store and fit in my car

Just cause someone can rip doesn't make them the know-er of everything does it? See that's the problem with some SUp's, or any riders i guess, you think cause your good at it you rule the playground

Well i'm **** but i will still take my waves and kook em if its my turn

Sorry CCC i didn't realise you are SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO AMAZINGGGGGGGGGGGG.
