Glassy, sunny, 3m swell, winter!

Who needs queensland?

I only took one pic today of Cathedral Rock doing it's stuff - those dots are surfers.

Ended up at Urquhart Bluff. Stacked full of cars and lots of peeps in the water. We debated about going for a surf here or down or up the road for around 15mins. The sticking point was that it was so crowded.

All of a sudden about 12 of them headed into shore all at once. we thought, great - "bugger all out now', and those left aren't even going for it.

After I donned up and pulled the board and paddle off my rack the guy parked next to me, who had just come in, said "you'll be right" I said "why" to which he replied "there's wildlife out there - you are on a stand up"

We hesitated again for about 10 seconds and then just got out there - no one get eaten, and the surf was absolutely epic.

Sure was fun. cold in the water though. Cathedral was still working at high tide through the middle section. No one even bothered with the end section which has got a bit of a bank at the moment. Sun, surf and 13c water!! Oh isn't that only 5 ft?

probably only 5', I'm no wave size expert - too controversial for me to debate.

I just go by what port of melbourne report at the heads - it was about a 3m swell today, swell direction and period play a part of the story.

Really fun session at Pines yesterday .... Got out early and had heaps of glassy 2 footers to myself on the incoming tide and was surprised by how uncrowded it was for such perfect day. Best surf I've had in a long time Luke

Luke,
I can only assume the lack of people on Sunday was because so many people had used up their "Brownie points" on Saturday on the bigger swell. (I know I did).

Good tactics by you!!

Thanks Bondalucci , the drop ins ruin some good waves for some people though.

And even if they don't drop in that vid shows exactly how it ruins the wave for the fella in the take of spot , by making It break early .

Premature breakation !!

Reading between the lines, is that the best slam by a short boarder to a SUP surfer? Out you go mate, the big fish with the sharp teeth need feeding. Prefer it be a SUPer.

I was thinking the same thing on Sunday...! (As in brownies used up, and hence waves going to waste...0

Winki by Aquabumps

I only ever surfed Winki once. Having driven 20 hours from Sydney we pulled up at the carpark and it was pumping 6 foot+. One of the most memorable surfs I have ever had. Both Winki's are a sick wave when they are on!
