I have a story. Bear with me while I paint the picture.

My young bloke (age 13) came along and camped out with me. He was in our team and started paddling the weekend on his clubbie mal (there is a photo of Dale somewhere SUPing it). Anyway, by the end of the weekend he had graduated to one of JM's Surf SUP and was SUPing the last hour or so which was the first extended time I have seen him on a SUP. Kelly, having been on the water for 22 hours, still gave him a smile and some friendly instruction on paddle technique. I was a really nice gesture considering he would have been really hurting.

How about the Noel Graham story?

When I asked him if he would paddle in one of the relay teams he did not hesitate to say "yes". He lives at Lennox Head and remembers how the community got behind them last year.

I told him that it was $25 per paddler and told me to lock him in for 6 hours. He arrived for his paddle with $150, thinking it was $25 per hour! He still wanted to put the money in, but I convinced him to rather put the remaining $125 into raffle tickets. Anyway he ended up winning that new Corban SUP and did not hesitate to put it straight back in for auction. The board sold for $1000 so Noel not only paddled 6 hours but he also put in $150 in cash and $1000 in a SUP.

How good is that? Thanks, Noel - what an inspiration you were.

At no stage during this event were there less than 20 paddlers in the water. I counted 30 paddlers at 9pm on Saturday night and 20 paddlers at 3am on Sunday morning. I don't think any of us expected such support with such little preparation time.
