Just had to tell someone….
Paddling back from Maroubra this morning. Passing South Coogee headland, near Wedding Cake Island, two huge fins catch my attention. Thinking oh crap, oh crap, oh crap, they turned out to be 2 Humpback Whales.
Such amazing creatures and an experience.
They ended up being only about 10 metres away and both were slapping their pectoral fins…..kind of like waving to me….or telling me to p1ss off.
I slowed and watched, held my original line so not to disturb these awesome creatures and then let them continue on their merry way….simply amazing.
Bugger….I’d thought about taking the GoPro this morning but hadn’t recharged batteries, FCS attachment not on…..blah blah…..bugger!!!
Anyway….had to tell someone….(the missus is away and the mates are at work).
It is always a buzz to have the sea life around when your surfing. I got a visit from some dolphins the other day and as usual, they made my heart skip a beat or two until I cinfirmed they were not sharks.
I would love to get close to some whales, it must have been amazing!
Nice one Peasey. I too saw a couple of big boys off Warriewood this morning - not as close as you though. Might have been the same ones.

Yep, a solo paddle is never really a solo paddle!
I have been doing quite a bit of paddling on my own in Jervis Bay and I see dolphins all the time. What amazes me is that it still puts a great big childish grin on my face every time!
Last Thursday I was with this pod of about a dozen or more dolphins for nearly an hour (I followed behind them for the first half hour, never really able to catch up to them, then they slowed down along the front of Callala Beach village & I ended up right in the middle of the pod for the next 45mins). They are such inquisitive creatures and on several occasions, individuals swam right up to me and under my board. It was harder than you think to get this on film though!
