Oh yeah, one for the non bogan, consederate jet ski user. Mine is much quieter than pretty much any outboard boat, or any gardening machine. and also i think many people would be surprised how many of those gnarly, rad fully sick riptide, surfing life magazine air's and front page pics are actually flicked in by a jet ski.
again f*&K off and leave the crowded surf breaks alone for surfers alike though, so definately with most of you there.
What size rego numbers are these vessels required to have?
maybe the numbers need to be 120mm high across the bow fairing cover.
for easier Identifacactions . and dobins with water camera .
So who exactly is going to enforce these new laws ? Possibly the same people that enforce the wearing of lifejackets in the small craft that cross the currumbin bar every day (yeah rite) and who possibly put more surfers/and themselves in danger than the jetskis out there. Dont get me wrong I hate the bloody things as much as any body out there but its kinda futile isn't it if nobody is going to police it and fine the law breakers.
If you are on a board of any type you are not a swimmer so the 60m rule does not apply , like it or lump it that's the rule.
Didn't want to post this so the D!ckheads didn't get wind of it BUT it's a fact , I own a ski and tow in but never go near surfers. 9 times out of 10 I paddle in on my SUP and have to deal with the jet ski wakes , the general tow crew are respectful it's the mugs on the stand up or pole skies and the newbies with sit down skies that are the terriost , dropping in on surfers or doing blind flips over waves.
Banning skies at certain points is not the answer , it comes back to education and respect , again it's up to the water police applying the laws already in place.
Once you are off your board you are a swimmer but if you have a leggie on you're not.
Rob
3x jetski bogans out the alley today again this ban is working well.life gaurds should ring regos through to cops who could meet them at the boat ramp.
Part of the document http://www.msq.qld.gov.au/~/media/db656a8b-0f0c-4d2b-884b-c22652ed2978/tow_in_surfing_consultation_jan_10.pdf
Masters of personal watercraft have a legislated responsibility to ensure their vessels are not operate at a speed greater than six knots within 60 metres of a person in the water, a ship at anchor, moored or made fast to the shore or aground and a jetty, wharf, boat ramp, boundary of a bathing reserve or the shore.
Yeah it is one of those technical issues.
By the sounds of it , and I haven't been to the maritime authority etc, it is forbidden to navigate a jetski at a speed greater than six knots within 60 metres of a person in the water, a ship at anchor, moored or made fast to the shore or aground and a jetty, wharf, boat ramp, boundary of a bathing reserve or the shore.
However if you put a legrope on you are less important than all the above .????
I always try to take into account that if you ask a loaded question you are more likely to get a desired answer from someone who maybe is partially informed but wants to appear like they know the facts. Not referring to you Piros but perhaps the people you chatted to. I may be wrong but I still can't see the logic and this all does not correspond to what I read. How can they not be allowed to go within 60m of the shore yet ok to go closer to a non powered water craft -sup etc. I often find that if it really doesn't make sense then there are other details which may be inaccurately interpreted.
Whatever, they are banned anyway..just interesting to try to understand.
Check out this photo shoot I did on our last decent swell.
It got so bad I called the cops out we were absolutely terrorised by a group of stand up jet skiers (not in the shots) we also battled the tow crew who generally kept their distance , when the water police finally came out , I hopped on their boat and had a good chat. The law only protects swimmers so we might as well be in a row boat there is no definition from us on a SUP we are still a craft , the cops understand this and they will intervine and tell the jet skiers to move away for saftey reasons but it's not the law.
A craft is a craft and a swimmer is a swimmer , don't get me wrong I hate the mutha f!ckers that destroy the session and I'm the first one to get in their face and generally they move on but this attitude ...you can't be here doesn't stick .... stand your ground and tell them to f!ck off and generally they do......
Piros your rules must be different ours clearly states 200m from all other water users. Even specifies paddle surfers lol.
I do tell them to **** off.
All you sup ers get a life or a ski
The point is...most of you who could get out there and surf on a four to six foot day at the alley would have a ski. The rest of you would be inside on the flat, crapping yourself !!!!!
If skis are your only problem what about the 200 or so boats that use the currumbin alley as the only means to get out fishing especially when the government hasn't dreged the bar so most boats have to come right through the line up where all the surfers are.
What the difference betwwen a 2.5 m jet ski and a 5.5m boat coming through the bar (You arn't trying to ban the boats)
Most of the tow surfers i know if they were towing on a decent size day would help the paddlers by giving them a lift back out to point.
We are all there for the waves and im sure whens it the surf gets big and the skis are out, you are all watching wishing that you have a jetski.
But is that any reason to try and ban the skis from the alley.
CMC watch out
So really what your saying is that water police are not doing their job properly and controlling hoons or whatever you want to call them.
some Sup'rs have sup'd the alley at 4-6 without a ski......do you really need a ski at 4-6???
I dont think guys here have a problem with the tow guys doing the right thing but more the bogans with cash........unfortuneatly like most thing in life the few spoil it for the many.
so is that really worth a ban for us guys who love too tow surf and for the other fella 6 foot plus is worth towing
