Ok... It's time for something new. After the great success of the time trial and in the lead up to the Ocean Addicts Power of the Paddle in November we have decided to mix things up a bit.

We are still going to do the Lake 4.24km time trials as they have set a standard that a lot of locals want to beat. Every second week though we are going to host a 5km flat water BOP. The idea is to start at the 500m section of the Lake (in front of Kawana State High School) and complete 4 laps of the course as per the image below. Each lap will have 2 x 500m stretches and 2 x 100m stretches with a 40m run each time. Finish will be with the 40 meter run.

This Thursday is the first of the flat water BOP time trials and we will us a GPS to get an accurate distance. The distance will be exactly the same each time as we are using the permanent lake markers. Meet in front of Kawana High. Any board is fine.

Next week it will be the 4.24km time trial. Swap each week.

I reckon it's a good idea to practise pivot turns in each direction.
Here's a fun technical (BOP) course we've come up with down here using some permanent buoys. It's just under 2km long and gives you plenty of turning practise!!
It can be quite challenging when the wind blows up.

EDIT: Oh yeah....we call it the X-Stitch.

^^^Looks great. We are working with permanent markers to so that there is no set up or confusion if myself or some other regulars can not make it.

We have also decided to run half BOPS (2.5km) and Half Lake (2.24km) time trials for those who are not wishing to do the full course. This will help those just starting out on paddling, have a smaller board or those who don't feel like doing the larger courses.etc etc. We are hoping that this encourages even more people to join in. Again the effort here is to grow the sport and not exclude any demographic..
The half and full course will run at the same time

We will run the BOP and Half Bop one week (like we did tonight) and the Lake time trial the alternate week. Just remember the BOP location in 500m down the lake from the other location.

Tonight the wind was up making it a hard slog this arvo so a great effort for all who did it. Here are the stats and the new leader boards for this race. Remember it is about beating your own PB.

Full BOP

Half BOP

See you next week for the full lake time trial.

Also a big thanks to Di and Jo for timing the race today.

Cheers
