Here is an addition to the already full Sydney SUP racing program.
Dean Gardiner is putting this event on as part of the Australian Ocean Racing Series. Apart from being a legend ocean skid paddler, he is a closet SUP enthusiast and is keen to promote the sport in Australia.
The Oceanpaddler races are always good value with plenty of prizes and, most importantly, beer at the end of the race.
For those hoping to be at the pointy end of the field, there is quite reasonable prizemoney I hear.
Just been told prizemoney split by Dean.
$500/$300/$100 - Guys and Girls.
Board class: 14s with no rudder.
Kinda of looking like a sweet downwind run for Saturday.
Based on current forecast, course will be Fishermans to Manly.
If you want a crack at the prizemoney, bring your 14.
Couple more details:
- Wind is looking epic so enter online at oceanpaddler.com/king-of-the-harbour-final-race-information/ and save yourself the $10 late entry fee.
- must "wear" your PFD - no bumbags - and Dean is pretty strict on this (think of it as good practice for the 20Bs where you "must" wear your PFD - no exceptions)
- at sponsors request, there is equal prizemoney for girls and guys, so girls , please turn up - would be a real step backwards if we did not have 3 girls to pick up the 3 cheques - so far we have not had any Sydney girls actually compete in any of the Sydney races this season?!?!
- and most important of all - the post race drink (and presentation) at Manly Wine opposite Manly Surf Club
I hear a few gun qld'ers are coming to play. With Australia's best marathon racer, Beau O'brien and young Jake on the startline there'll be plenty to play for.
Sam.
