Awesome day out there and stoked to be apart of it!!
Great event for spectators and families.. Even had Mum throwing me water around the run section.. Yeewwww
Looking forward to more of these events
Defiantly worth the trip up from the big smoke!!
Anyone got full results of all the different divisions? It'd be great to know who was on what board too.
Conditions cleared up with an almost offshore for the early this morning, but by race time (slightly delayed) onshore was up, making a difficult (slightly changed) course.
Couple of hiccups getting the race underway, but I am told these things rarely run smoothly and as the first event I've done, learned a lot along the way.
A big thanks to Jamie Mitchell, who just rocked up to have a look in at the race, and ended up going out in the IRB to correctly reposition the marker buoys, and then taking the microphone to give running commentary and interviews throughout the race. No-one could have done it better, and the race would not have been the same without his input.
Huge effort put in by all competitors, with Travis taking out the Pro Mens division after taking the lead from the start. It was far from an easy race for him though, as hot on his heels was Jacko, followed by Kelly, Peasi, and Macca (1st Open), all trading places throughout the race with a lot of offs all round.
Shakira blitzed the Pro Womens coming 10th overall, and Jenny Ryan and Angie had a battle going that saw Jen getting away in the later stage of the race. Alison Fulagar (Ali Cat) put in a never-say-die effort to complete the course and finish fourth, limping over the finish line, after injuring her hip. Fantastic to see the girls giving the blokes a run for their money.
The Amateurs category was also hotly contested, with GSI's Jamie Willems taking out the class and winning his own prize offering, which was handed on to second placed Ben Cox. Danny Sheard was right behind these two to round off the podium.
Below is placing list for all classes, think have it pretty much correct, although the Open/Over 40's caused some confusion to the crew counting at the finish line. Some of the over 40's were on 12'6 boards but have been included in Open. We were counting on a computer tallying system to tag and time paddlers but that didn't show for the race, so had to improvise a bit.
Not 100% on all the boards, especially the Novice class, so if I am wrong feel free to correct...

Thanks Scotty, it was a great day mate. Nice to see so many new faces giving racing ago.
Bingo cheers!! What a legend, he didn't even want to race but i convinced him and he ends up with a 2nd.
BIG! Thanks to all the people that came down and showed their support to the competitors and Scotty, & all the board handlers and crew.
It certainly was a challenging race and conditions but we all had the same.
Well done to all place getters.
I think BOP racing in OZ is going to be HUGE!!
Thanks to AUS301 for being an Excellent board handler for me! You rock mate.
XX angie
Bingo Cheers paddled really well, he and Danny were unlucky that Jamie caught the last wave and got a better run into the gutter than both of them.
Talk about score, Bingo ended up with 1st and 2nd place prizes. I was selfishly wondering if he was going to give his prize to 3rd, 3rd to 4th, 4th to me.............. Hahahaha. I was just thinking selfishly though.
Really fun day!!!! i hope everyone has seen how much fun this kind of racing can be and the numbers keep getting bigger!!
It was good to see all the guys and girls who train on currumbin creek do so well and hope more people get the bug and come down to the creek and get in to it.
