Ever wondered what to do with unsightly chips and dings along the rails of your SUP?

Try this:

Step 1
Fix the chips and dings with some epoxy resin (I used that two part pastey stuff you can get from a boat shop - it's already got micro-balloons in it and it's easy to work with). Sand smooth.

Step 2
Get some gloss enamel paint from your local hardware and a good quality artist's brush (about 10mm).

Step 3
Paint some random tiger stripes along the rails - making sure you cover all the ding repairs.

The finished product:

Notes:
- Try not to do it outside on a windy, dusty day, like me.
- Depending on your rail colours you may want to go for the zebra, cow or giraffe look.
- Be careful to now only get dings on the black bits - otherwise you will end up with completely black rails.

Nice Cass,
You guys who follow footy teams that have not won a flag for 30 years are sure loyal. Mine won in 2004 and not even close since and I am getting impatient and pissed....

It wraps around to the pin line on the bottom - just like the top. The bottom of the board isn't all orange - just the rails.

Let's hope it keeps the sharks away ... and the tiger sharks don't get aroused!

Hi Casso
Can you give us the brand name of that two part pasty stuff so I can chase some up, nearest boat shop 100km.

Hey Robdog, this is the stuff:

Norfill Epoxy Filler
A paste-like white, waterproof filler that can be sanded and left as a finish, or painted over. Norfill has excellent non-sagging properties so that even large cracks or holes can be filled in one application. Norfill is solventless and does nor shrink, making it the perfect filler where strength and adhesion is important. May be applied to all prepared surfaces and will not react with other coatings or treatments. Will tolerate the addition of Norglass Pigment Paste (5% to volume) to achieve pastel colours. Teak and mahogany timber colours are also available in the 2 smallest sizes.
Sizes: 8kg, 4kg, 2kg, 1kg, 500g and 250g packs.
Mixing Ratio: 2:1 by volume.

You can get it at:

Thanks Casso, I reckon I'll go for a zebra stripe, one starting at the tail and going right up to the nose and back again down the other rail!

Ooooh, yeah, that's a tricky one to try and hide. The filler resin is pretty white - so you may not need to paint it at all.

Nice wrapping lines in the background of that photo.

Yeah! I lent it to Brooko for one surf and that's how it came back!!!

No, seriously Brooko's innocent, I'll lend it to anyone who's keen to have a go at SUP and it has paid the price, I still love that board.
