25 knots north wind today.. It's looking good already.. ..
[Northerly 10 to 15 knots increasing to 15 to 20 knots this morning and locally reaching 25 knots for a period during late morning and early afternoon].

20-30 knots noth wind forcast Saturday.. ..
[Northerly 15 to 20 knots increasing to 20 to 30 knots during the late morning and afternoon].

20-30 knots north wind forcast for Sunday.. ..
[Northerly 20 to 30 knots decreasing to 20 to 25 knots around midday then decreasing to 15 to 20 knots during the afternoon and evening].

Those keen to try a down-winder should come along this w/e for a St Kilda to Sandy run.. It takes and 1 1/2 hrs.. Less than 50 minutes if you're good..

But remember it's not a race.. We re-group opp Elwood and stop at Green Point along the way.. 9.30 -10am meet at Sandy both days for a 10.30 start at St Kilda.

I'd be keen to repeat last weekend's StKilda to Rickett's Point run on at least one of the days. But should be there for both.

Looks like a fair amount of east in Saturday's wind direction. Maybe not so ideal for newcomers or people with weak left shoulders. Sunday is looking very nice.

Okay so the plan is to meet at Sandringham at the cafe between 9.30 and 10 then head to StKilda for a 10.30 start. We don't have Jonathan and his trailer tomorrow so back to the old fashioned car swap.

We might do something different on Sunday - maybe start at Ricketts.

I'll come on the condition that there is no obligatory photo of my board lined up on the beach, posted on seabreeze.com.au.

I have a secret fin set up - that Lacey hasn't even dreamed of

The wind and waves were not kind to us today - not a great downwinder but a pod of dolphins kept us entertained around StKilda harbour for about half an hour. I know what you're thinking - pictures or it didn't happen. Sadly, I went out with a flaccid GoPro... left the memory stick in the computer at home which was dumb. Hopefully DJ has the pics and vid.

Anyhow, on to tomorrow. Looks like the best wind conditions are between 7 and 10 so maybe another early one?

Corio Bay was fun this afternoon. We kicked off from Limeburner's Lagoon. A beautiful little spot. Finished at Eastern Beach. Almost 9km.

17 feet of fun !

I'm down near Wilsons Prom and there is the chance for a pretty epic downwinder on Tuesday if any of you Melbourne guys are interested. The forecast is for WSW of 70kph that would take us from Bear Gully/Walkerville South across Waratah Bay to Sandy Point/Shallow Inlet.

All the stories of Great Whites everywhere are totally exaggerated, you don't see them that often

This chart is for 1pm Tuesday CODE RED!!

^^^Where did you get that map from? I can only see the Pt Phillip/Western Port one on the BOM site.

There should be a swell map that goes with the wind map. It would be interesting to see what the swell is doing down there.

Hi Gorgo, saw your name on the post and thought I might be in trouble for suggesting something a little 'risky' Sorry to cast Nasturtiums....

The map comes from my new best friend on the BOM site Forecast Explorer
www.bom.gov.au/australia/meteye/

Awesome forecasting site, there is a little 'how to' video that's actually worth watching.

Cheers J

Hey Gorgo its not all bad, the Bay version of the same chart actually just sneaks around the edge of Cape Liptrap into Waratah Bay. Here is the version showing the conditions at 1 pm Tuesday, just a piddling 4-5 metres or maybe even some 5-6 metres....doesn't show the direction but it would be south westish same as the wind.

Hock and I hit the water at 7.15 this morning in semi-darkness for an Elwood to Ricketts. Talk about testing the balance skills!

Hey JC, I'll be at Venus Bay Wed/thurs. Rather than a dw, why don't we hook up for a wave at Walkerville.

Also, the morning is looking good for a daybreak DW. Anyone up for a quick Elwood to HMB?
