Hi All,

I am off to the maldives on Friday to keep the wife happy.

Would love some tips on spots from any one that has been there.

Where are you staying? that will kinda decide where you surf although some resorts have boat trips to other places.

Sp, thanks for reply

staying at all seasons kuda hurra.

Have arranged sup with tropic who I am sure will know good spots but keen to get a feel for good spots for sups and to know what vibe is like with others in the water.

Great place. Rode a mal there in 2009.

Funnily enough, when I tried to arrange a SUP trip to the Maldives with a well-known surf travel company they didn't want to know me and said they were discouraging SUPs in the Maldives because they didn't know my level of expertise and too many 'incidents' had occurred...going to Taiwan instead in about 5 weeks!

Some friends of mine have just returned from one of the surf camps , Pasta Point I think.Said it was SUP friendly with great waves.
Some of the resorts seem to have their own private breaks and restrict numbers accordingly and/or have boat access.
The only hitch was that this year they had to " reserve" their 2 hour time slot in advance. That would p*ss me off a little.

Mate, not sure where your resort is but looks like the standard Maldives resort, north Male.

So the waves you most likely will surf are. ( this is from my experience, could be different with different conditions we went in early August but I've had mates go back and it seems now is the better time wind wise although we had plenty of swell, we got cross shore winds a bit.)

Sultans. Long right, wally type wave but does suck a bit on the inside, probably the best right hander up there. On the other side of this is Honkies, it's a left that wraps around the other side of the island, bends back on itself a bit and can have a few sucky sections.

Next up is Cokes, this can get really good, I have seen footage of a mate surfing good 6ft plus waves there and it was in a word awesome. Our boat parked up being here most days so we surfed here a bit. We didn't get it great but still had some really fun surfs, probably one of the suckier waves. But not nasty just a lot of fun

Across the Channel from there is Chickens, it's a long left, we had 5 naturals and one goofy so we only surfed it once when we were sick of going right

Going the other way from Sultans, there is lohis, which is out the front of a resort, it's a left, we stayed here for a few days but didn't surf out the front, we were getting the resort boat to somewhere else. I've had other mates that have gone and only surfed here that got it good but was **** when we were there.

Next down the line is Club Med.
It's a soft right, we went past it a few times but didn't surf it. Although we did go to club med but that is a whole different story..

Next down is Pasta Point, it is reserved for guests of the resort, so you can't surf it, it looked probably the best left up there.

Lastly is jails is another right, we surfed here a few times when it was bigger and got some great waves, it goes for ages if you get the right one but it can be a bit shallow in a few spots.

You'll have a great trip mate, it is a piece of paradise and the waves get really good.

no sups when we were there so no idea how you'll go but you should be fine.

Photos please...

Hey Boston did a boat trip there in aug 2010 and had a ball. Only rode sup and had 2xoh Jails on first day. This is prob the best right in area for the combo of long rides and power. My favourite spot was cokes shorter but when Overhead pretty intense with lots of barrels. Chickens the left accross the bay is awesome aswell. Make sure you wear booties on the sup as you inevitably end up in the shallows which aren't that sharp but could still cut ya. Enjoy!
