Here's a few pics from todays down-winder.
It's interesting to see everyone on serious down wind boards now.. and gone are the wave boards and flatwater boards that many used to use.
From left to right.. Naish 14' Glide.. Starboard 14' Surfrace.. Starboard 14' Open Ocean.. 14' fanatic.. 16' SIC F16.. 14' Fanatic.. and 14' Starboard Surfrace.
Blue skys.. hot and windy.. Really windy.. about 40 knots windy..
Thanks to Warwick from RPS for letting me try their new carbon 14' Glide.. btw awesome board.
Quick pic along the way at a re-group stop.. Check out the size of the swells..
Today really was down wind heaven..
Also thanks to JC for getting us and our boards back to our cars.

Yeah it was big yesterday for sure.. Huge at times.. It's hard to take a pic in those conditions that shows just how big it was.. I did get some GoPro vid.. I'll try and edit a small bit that shows the size of the waves.. I was right on the tail of the board surfing left and right on some of the big ones like it was a surf wave.. My borrowed GoPro didn't last long due to either card size or battery life.. and I turned it on a bit too early in the run.. and it also fogged.. But it's still watchable..

Lucky buggers!
My usual lament, doesn't anyone work normal hours anymore? I knew it would be an epic D/W day. But given that I had already had two days off work due to a kidney stone ( painful little f***kers!), I figured more time off was not an option.
I would have loved to try the JM board in decent swells.
Welcome back to Oz Jonathan.
This was the one we've been hanging for.
I trialled my newly acquired FCS, carbon DW fin and it certainly made my Fanatic 14 feel much more lively.
Here's a few shots a mate took as he followed us down the bay.
My back leg was aching from being in a surf stance for most of the 17km trip! Nice problem to have.
Next Tues/Wed are both looking the goods!
I can't believe I missed out. I had beed watching all day thinking I could get one in after work. Was all geared up and ready to go but come 6.30 I was still in the city in the fire truck! The big winds mean great seas for DW but also busy for us at work. Hope the next one is on a day off.
Glad you boys had fun

Would love to hear any feedback on how the different boards handled the conditions, eg SB open ocean vs surf race. Did the extra 2 ft of the SIC F16 make a big speed difference? Naish v Fanatic? I understand it has a lot to do with the jockey but love reading the reviews as I make the agonising decision about how next to extend the quiver
Just a quick video from Thursday, what a blast, endless runners. Loving the Starbie Open Ocean. Didn't even bother to edit, just grabbed three section and left the 'real' soundtrack to try to give the actual feel.
Nice legs JC.. I was waiting for the big.. Boof .. .. Funny how it doesn't sound or look windy in the vid.

That pic sums up a good one.
Haven't managed to fit one in for a while. Looking forward to a day that looks like that.
