Yes..some normality
On a pre-determined day in early 2011, I want to get as many SUP's as possible (200 would be good) to meet at Werribee **** farm. Yes its a protest, no its an awareness paddle, its a family day. Call it what you like. Mission Possible?
If this is true it probably would affect some of my semi-regular paddling spots and I would generally support a genuine local environmental issue......
but in this case I dont want to get that oily feeling all over my "Krap" pop out SUP.
My family are '$hi*' farmers from Werribee. Actually a very large percentage of them in the old days were employed by the MMBW as rabbit and fox trappers. This in the days of Mixo if you know what this is. If you're in Werribee and talk to any long time local I am sure they will know my last name.
For the uninitiated or people from afar the Werribee project is about spreading poo poo and wee wee onto paddocks and allowing the land to filter the water. The bonus is very fertile lands, green grass and many happy cows. You have probably eaten beef fed by grass that grew in your own poo
Point is the other half (my old mans side) of the family were fisherman that moored boats at Werribee South, Point Cook and Kirks Point. They have fished the area for years. Still do.
Two things spring to mind on this one.
- Witnessing Flourescent Orange sludge in the water near the outfall as a young child. Explained as over capacity discharge. This was over 20 years ago and i am sure more people now equals more poo. I don't keep up with the times on poo farms so I am sure things have also changed with capacity. I am not a scientist but I am sure flouro orange stuff near outfalls could be bad news.
- A group of Asians either dieing or becoming extremely ill by eating mussels and oysters from the rocks not far from the outfall. Once again, no scientist but if the water was clean why would you fall ill from this?
Wanker is displaying self naming tendencies here but I sure as poo would not paddle my SUP around that area.
When I say may affect some of my semi-regular paddle spots, I'm talking other side of bay. Hey wanker, how far would this supposed mercury travel?
thanks CMC...there is plenty of Fluro coming out of the hospitals and goes straight to Werribee. The treatment process Class C is bug driven and the poor little bugs get slammed by the radioactive stuff from the hospital. The treatment fails and then they pump it into the Bay..(sorry Port Phillip). Sound like Worlds Best Practice to You?
Ok the truth is thats not my name and I dont do jet ski. Actually hate them. also I dont live in NT.
I live in VIC and have been surfing for 45 years....so I am old!!!
If Wanker's claims were true then it's a no brainer to collect samples, have them tested and publish the results.
However, Wanker is hiding behind an anonymous username, is abusive to those who criticise and provides no scientific evidence to back up his claim.
Placing these claims on a vague forum for SUP fanatics from all over Australia?
Methinks it stinks of troll and possibly another agenda.......
Choose another soapbox Wanker, we're going surfing.
As my mate Cramond once pointed out,
"something around here smells like fish, and there's only two things that small like fish, and one of them's fish"....
I never did get to the bottom of that quote, but I've always loved it !!
Gee those kids sounded young to be allowed to watch that, well done to their mother not.
On the other hand, pardon the punt, wanker would enjoy being the chimp
