I found a new SUP surf buddy.
They have always been there but I never really sat down and had a chat with them until yesterday.
Someone who likes and wants the same things as I do in stand up paddle surfing.
They talk, eat, sleep and live SUP just as much as me. And they are as keen to get waves whenever, however and whatever it takes.
Metts, Playgrounds, Thichshakes, Rescues, up north or down south. We are there!
Your it Belly

It was his tatts and piercings that drew me in
Miller needs to get himself a tatt or two.. or three... or four before he even comes close to Belly

Yeah he's certified mad.
Went out at 6 this morning at Avalon and Belly was already out there. He and his mate Dylan were out there at 4.30am. Seeing it was almost a full moon they figured it was light enough.
Big tip Greeny, start skulling kegs of Red Bull, eating bucket loads of red snakes and be prepared to not sleep if you want to keep up.

I had exactly the same feeling after our chat yesterday cant wait to get out there a get some waves with ya and downwinding haha

Yeh Avalon this morning, dragged my mate out of bed and we were in the water at just after 4.30....am Like Luke said it was pretty light from the moon and i had such a good time out there catching as many waves as i wanted.....in the dark While Dylan sat out there cold, scared, angry, unable to see 2m in front of him and mighty hungover..
Its been quite a few years since ive done that.. The feeling of catching a decent wave in the dark is amazing....a little scary when you cant really see sets coming but all adds to the fun.. It was pretty good early but as the wind picked up and the tide dropped it started closeing out more and sorta lost its funness (if that is even a word).. Searched for another wave in mandurah with not much luck and ended up scoreing my little local wave for an hour or so when i got home...

All in all a great day on the water pitty you couldnt make it Greeny... Next time for sure

oh and its definatly the tats that do it for most people

I think Miller is a bit of a shy guy. Plenty of guys in Vicco who share the same enthusiasm. But very few of us have ever spotted Windy in the wild.

I can understand it though, most of us have commitments, especially with a young one on the way, and can't get away when we want to. And when we can get away, the conditions are not always right. Windy, you are welcome to hook up with a fellow Victorian at any time - I can tell you for a fact that many of us don't bite.

I know your thoughts on downwinders, Windy, and can understand where you are coming from. The first time you tried it the wind was from one direction and the swell from another - it's a fricken washing machine - done a few like that before. I swear windy, try a downwinder again, on the right day, I think you need at least one good one under your belt, before you give the game away.

Going for a paddle by yourself is always great, but I think most of us agree that we would prefer to be sharing the experience with someone else.

Why do ppl find it necessary to name locations in their stories, certain details are best kept quiet. Kind of like a surfers unwritten rule for forums.

Why do ppl whine about unwritten rules on forums? How far is that spot from Melbourne - where was it again? Can you give me GPS coordinates? I can't make it tomorrow as I have a parent teacher night and need to comb my hair on Mondays. But I'll drive down and meet you there at first light, Tuesday. We can meet at the car park at dawn - my car is blue. Do you like snickers bars? I'm only asking cause I've got a few left over after I bought some from a friend at work for some fundraising thing. I think it's a good cause.

It will have to be Tuesday and I don't think I can make the red eye in time, with the parent teacher night and as I'm making up some signs that say "Unwritten surfer rules should be respected" I thought we could drive around Perth and put up my posters on powerpoles - is that allowed.

can you buy some sticky tape? as I've run out. I'll bring along those snicker bars? I will be wearing a green shirt with a floral pattern.

Oh, I'm sorry for making such a stupid statement.......apparently

2 years ago I was SUPing the spot with a mate and only saw 2 locals occasionally on SUP.

Last year I saw Greeny once soon after he recognised it in one of my photo's and then the word and mouth started and the masses started turning up.

This year according to you "everyone in WA is there". That quote kind of supports my case I think.

All I said was why is it necessary, I know heaps of mal riders that check here just like kiters and windsurfers check each others forums. Naming places creates bad vibes with locals. I'll leave it at that if you guy's can't reply with a sensible response.

Hilly will have to hook up for a sesh, might try get up your way in the near future haven't had a decent wave since September

Work and family sitting but season starting again so will drop some commitments and make a more assertive effort Had 2 sessions on the short board at an off shore island. Won't mention it because it's a top secret.

Sorry Sammy i didnt really mean for it to get like that mate..I do apoligise for it going that far.. I just really didnt realise it was an issue...my bad For the record there was no more the 4 SUP along the hole strech at any one time and there would have been 100plus long and shortboarders.. Im pretty sure they new about the spot before us paddle boarders started posting about it..

I really dont mean that in a offencive way but every body who has ever picked up a surf board knows of that spot..

The masses started turning up???
I've seen a max of 4 sups out there at one time over the last couple of years. I only saw 6 sups in total out at different times there today. Mostly away from the horde of longboarders on the point. Sure its a predominately long board spot purely due to their weight of numbers.
I think you are making too much out of the whole "keep it a secret" mentality.

LOL Metro surf spots everybody knows them.

I don't see you on the other forums slamming them for spruking Triggs in every second post.

If it was a secret spot I see your point but this is not.

Im actually with Sammy on this one. I never name places no matter how well known they are. I try to make up names in replace of their real names.
I remember surfing the place before the cut went through which happens to be named after my grandmas (my dads mum) family name. I started windsurfing it about 5 years ago. And when I got into SUP surfing I knew that the place would be sick for the paddle board.
Mini Gloo is not the only place but other places in the area are sick for SUPing. Just take the time to look.

"Naming places creates bad vibes with locals"??? people shouldnt name secret spots that no one knows about... but we are talking about a wave which had half of perth out and a competition and 20 people just checking it.... and does avalon even have locals? define locals because i live down the road and have been surfing there since I was 12, does that make me a local? or are the locals there the people who own $2 million mansions?

LOL look at you fella's all getting carried away, need to actually read what was said.

Sammy never mentioned anything about it being a secret spot, Zimbo did whilst trying to be sarcastic for what ever reason.

I kind of see his point, I'll mention names of places to mates when we catch up or in a PM. But if you start writing it in forums where 1000's of people read it, that spot you like to share with 4 or 5 others now becomes so crowded you'll be asking yourself why.

That's a long road from Ocean Reef, maybe you should change your profile if you've moved recently and now live there. If you have moved there recently then I would say you have a couple years till your a local. If you still live in Ocean Reef then your Mum and Dad are awesome for driving that far to checkout a fickle spot
