Would be great if they would consider it. Looking much better than Sat.
Who's going to be paddling in which divs?
Tomorrow is last day to enter if you're keen.
Great idea jed! An extra bonus is that if it got moved to Sunday we wouldn't have to worry about the road closures for the Wintersun Festival either - but I still don't like the chances of them moving it.
I'll be paddling too so lets just hope that southerly comes a day early.
As long as its windy enough to keep those flat water speed racer boards out of the race. We're all doomed if the conditions suit those things.
You know who you are....
Kate from Surfing Aus just advised they cannot move the event to Sunday as everything is set in place to run on Saturday. Also other competitors have already made travel arrangements around this date.
10am forecast is 9 knots SSW, so looking like a repeat of last year. Glad I've got a rudder.
A lot better than North East. Better than West or South West also just not ideal but apart from Salt is it ever? lucky everyone paddles together.
1st post here and 1st group paddle on saturday so excuse my "noviceness"...
What time do you reckon we should be at Snapper considering Wintersun is on?
Do I need a rash or do they supply one?
See you soon!
I spoke to SQLD this afternoon and they said that they were looking into the roads situation and would post some info on the site. The closer the race is to the middle of the day the worse it gets. In all reality it would be better to get in early to Cooly rather than wait for conditions and get out. I worked in the middle of town for a few years and they shut it off, street parades, bands playing and 3 million Elvis outfits. Nice cars though, just plenty weirdo's. Gets busier all day.
I am thinking perhaps getting dropped at Kirra and then paddling up to Snapper. If sign is at Snapper however don't really want to wait around on the beach in wet gear waiting to sign in etc etc. Do you need I.D? Not sure how else you would get there other than around the back past Twin Towns which I assure you will be an absolute nightmare.
Best bet would be sign in at Currumbin, get your race shirt etc. Get dropped at Kirra, paddle up to Snapper for the race start and meet your car etc back at Currumbin.
If anyone finds out what SQLD is planning to get around this please let us all know.
ohhh nooo... looks like I'll be out! Just got back from the doctors and looks like I have a virus. No training or racing for at least a week.... good luck to everyone going in it! :)
I just spoke to surfing Qld , it's definetly on Saturday at Rainbow Beach 10am start , it won't change unless it goes to the North (unlikey) , you can access Rainbow by going around the back of Coolangatta.
