Lost my Sony Action cam at Narrowneck yesterday afternoon (saturday) heading out for a downwinder

I must have clipped it with my paddle when a wave hit me from the side and was unlucky enough to snap clean through the plastic GoPro mount (the bottom half of the mount is still firmly attached to the fcs slot on the top of my board) and at the same time break the backup tether string too - just not my day!

Anyway I don't expect to find it or get it back, just thought it couldn't hurt mentioning it here just in case it happens to turn up.

Cheers, Ali.

Bummer.. It might wash up but I reckon it's gone..

The guy at my local camera store said to always have your phone number on the camera inside the waterhousing and it seems like a good idea.. Must do mine one day.

Me too! Its the 2nd time I've snapped a backup tether, last time surfing at Kirra I was lucky to find it on the bottom, so I'm assuming my luck ran out then! Can't hurt to ask though :)

Might have to name the next one... But I'm not sure that the fish can read - and if they can, I'm pretty sure they can't call me to say they found it!

Hey Ali cabe tie a fishing net float to it if you can!

They were doing great deals duty free on Sony Action Cams see if Angie can get you one coming back from OS.

The standard go pro tethers - should only be a backup if the primary mount fails, but twice the string has snapped. Had been thinking about taping a bit of pool noodle to the side of the camera as a float, but didn't get around to it, so its my loss.

Thanks Phil, but I won't have the funds to buy a replacement anytime soon, not sure if I'd bother with another Sony anyway (even if I've still got a bunch of mounts/accessories that won't fit anything else). The picture quality is great, but the camera heats up way too quickly and I've had all sorts of problems with fogging. Tried anti fog inserts, paper towel inside the case, blasting it with the air-con in the car before closing the case to dry out the air inside (particularly on humid days), and storing with those silica gel packs they use to keep moisture out pretty much anything these days. But the heat the camera generates just seems to be too much when the outside of the case is by water (even the relatively warm water we get here). On a good day, I'll get 20mins max before fogging (usually not running constantly) and a bad day only 5-10mins.

Will probably look at an iON Air or maybe GoPro if I decide to replace it down the track.

if its just a loop of string, some sort of poly I would guess, you could either get some high strength fishing line, or even better go to a fishing tackle shop and get them to make you one up out of stainless steel wire, like they do for game fishing leaders etc.

Thanks Nick, Luke & the Surf fx guys for finding me!

Great ending. We had a similar ending to this last year when a guy lost his GoPro near Tugun. We found it at Burleigh and it had a few pics of him on it, which helped us find him. Its always a good idea to have a file on the SD card with your contact details on it.
