Mmmm! Looking good!

Always liked the glide and feel of Dale's boards!
If the coco construction is anything like the 9'2 Coco, it will be one tough mother.

Should be great boards. Congrats to Dale.

Never thought there would be a circumstance in life to use the words 'Carbon Coconut' together!

the deck grip has all the appeal of a bad kindergarten painting, honestly these guys have the recources to turn out some sexy stuff and they rock out a bland two colour slab with brown pubes hanging foul out the side! ...shape will no doubt rock.

Maybe the ad campaign will go something like this...

Just like a chocolate milkshake only crunchy! And my milkshake bring all the kids to the yard and you're damn right, it's better than yours.

But will they snap, crackle or pop?

The shape looks good but is there an option paint your own?

I am a bit of a Coco convert. I wasn't sure at first about the 'bad hair-day' look of the Coco matt. But when you pick up the board and then ride it there is a real 'weight WOW' factor. At 8.5kg for the 9'2 Coco is down around custom weights.

Then when you smack the board with your paddle, (shore break pop-over, board coming straight for the face) then you hear a crack that rings of 'this session is all over', only to find that you cant even feel a dent or a crack in your board, thats when the Coco starts to warm on you. Now just waiting for the paddle to fatigue

Add the carbon rails on the race boards and the Coco race boards should be a very nice blend of value, weight and durability.

As soon as you paint it you are going to add weight. This is a new construction where function is going to rule over form.

What a fantastic video. Those guys sell truckloads of NSP in Canada. I challenge anyone silly enough to hit any other board with a sledge hammer one time like that and see what happens.

I was in Hawaii a couple of weeks ago and 99% of rentals on Waikiki are E2 NSP. I spoke to most of the Beach Boys and the simple reason was that when you do 300-400 rentals per day you learn what lasts and what doesn't pretty quick. Hence the majority of NSP's on the beach.

Some were using Coco Mat as well, nice and light and holding up to the abuse as well. Quite amazing that stuff when you learn about it.

Do we know whether these are now available and the prices ?

Unable to locate on Google....GSI only has 2012 board prices in their online shop.

Thanks.

Is there any talk of DC and NSP releasing what Travis rides. Looks very starboard-ish and it must be fast, but I guess Travis could make a door mat paddle fast.... Either way there is plenty of hype on these DC/NSP creations

14' x 26'. these boards are very stable and go absolutely nuts out in the ocean. starting 24.5" version.

they are not as radical as travis's but his idea's and design factors are in there. travis has been huge for dc nsp - more than just his paddling

Apart from the deck well which is also very different to any Starboard design Travis' and Laceys boards are nothing like a Starboard. The bottom contour and rocker shape is actually the complete opposite concept to Starboard. In fact if you took Travis' winning Doctor and King of the Harbour board and put it beside this one they are extremely similar with high rails creating the well rather than a sunken flatter deck with cutaway rail profile as per all other Dales boards. These designs use Travis' influence and desire for SUP boards to be all round speed machines in flat water and serious oceans much like his Pueo OC1's that he paddles when not on SUP. They are almost becoming like Ski or OC1 hulls especially on Travis' board which is amazingly fast but you need cat like balance to stay upright. He is a freak, this is a board for freaks.

As for NSP offering these types of designs, for 2013 they are releasing DC's already proven designs designed for those of us wanting versatile boards that can do almost anything you ask of it; Flatwater, surf, downwind etc etc. Travis' boards are still at testing stage with Dale and select team and customers and they are a way off becoming a production board for the majority of paddlers. The boards offered ny NSP now are super high performance and proven already to be super versatile for a very wide range of paddlers. Some people do not want to stand inside a well and prefer the surfboard feel, these boards fill that role perfectly.

The NSP DC's will be landing very soon.

i'm not that big on bop. dw ing is my rush.

the pictured board is pretty stable compared to say travis 12'6 which as cmc rightly points out are machines. to much for me to handle.

i have changed my paddling style to suit these boards because they move in the ocean more like a ski or oc1- i used to have a oc1.

the usual dodgy spots on the local runs have actually become easier to get through so yeah i really liking it-the lower effort more skill style this board gives me. i must say i'm doing some leg strengthening because of the steering done with the hips on this style of board and fin setup.

i'm no big name by any means and usually pretty straight up with dale on a board's stability. every time i paddle the board i keep thinking i can go narrower for sure so i guess that says a lot they just seems to flow through any rough areas. to me they are a lot easier to use then say the aces. every time i've been a bit edgy about taking the board out i've worried for nothing. besides getting smacked coming in sometimes i can only remember falling off once

all the same tho, i would think you would have to be a strong paddler who trains and dw's regularly to get the best out of these boards.

travis boards are for experts only imo

i do really like the dc nsp 14' x 26" board too.

Managed to score a couple of sessions on two production samples of the new NSP/DC boards floating around the country recently.
12'6 x 29" Coco and 14' x 26" Carbon.

FIRST IMPRESSIONS

12'6 x 29" Coco
The boards look very much like they do in the promo pics. The Coco looks pretty classy with the carbon rails and the graphic. Not your usual look for a race board but it really catches the eye.

The sample Coco has some excess resin around plugs and straps had a yellow tinge to it. Apparently this will disappear in final production.

There is a LOT going on in this board, construction wise. Probably one of the more sophisticated on the market with-
Coco matt deck, PVC sandwich hull and Carbon rails

14' x 26" Carbon
The Carbon board looks super sweet in the blue brushed carbon finish. The weight on this production sample is on the money.

At 26" it is pretty narrow for what I usually paddle. It is very straight through the middle as you would expect for a the narrowest board in the range.

Doesn't mean anything though if it doesn't paddle.....

THE RIDE

12'6 x 29" Coco
I paddles this board in a 10 knot onshore breeze out to the Bower and back a few times and caught some swells and runners. It was pretty choppy with a 2-3' wave at the Bower with the usual washing machine around the bay of Shelley Beach
I can really only compare this board to the original 12' x 30' Aruda that I have paddled and surfed for over a year. This was a favourite board as it was stable, quick and well mannered.

The first thing that stood out was that the board is very stable for 29". There is no loss of stability against the old 30" model. If anything it is more stable.
The board also felt a lot quicker. It was easier to get onto runners and stay on them. The fuller nose has more volume up front and allowed me to get forward and really dig in to the stroke. I would need to spend more time on the board but it was noticeable improvement on the 12'6 x 30" I am used to paddling.
All in all it was a positive experience with big thumbs up for improving speed and stability.

14' x 26" Carbon.
I managed to steal this board and take it down to the the JPP time trials at Narrabeen Lake recently. Conditions were near perfect with a light headwind on the return leg.
I had no idea what to expect at 26", thinking I might struggle. I wasn't racing and missed the start by a few minutes and hoped to 'just paddle' and maybe catch a few tail enders.

This board is quick. real quick. How quick? I am sure there are other boards narrower and faster, but the stability of this board was a real surprise. Normally on the narrower boards I lose my balance a bit and loose my stroke, but this board sits very nicely in the water. Once again speed and stability were the standouts.

The sample was on the money weight wise and definitely opened my eyes to paddling narrower boards. That said it was Narrabeen Lake and very smooth conditions.
Very keen to take this board in the Ocean and compare it to the 14' x 29"

All in all these boards are worthy of a new production line. They show signs of being big improvements on previous models with new level of strength and durability.

I have paddled and surfed and Dales boards for a few years now. I have always liked the 'feel' of his boards and felt he was very much in tune with the conditions we experience on the east coast. I will leave it to others to compare them with other boards/brands.

These boards are heading north this week so they maybe rocking up to a dealer near you
