She is now with Bic.. Wow..

That's gotta be a big blow for Starboard seeing they now have a Nikki Gregg board in their range.

Looks like Bic might be stepping up to try and match it with the other big brands.

If you're going to tie your brand to an individual to the degree that you name a product after them, then at minimum, you want to make sure you have a long-term-contract with them extending well beyond current production and marketing of said product.

Starboard, that first tip's free. PM me if you wish to hire me as a brand consultant

I have always found that made in France line to be a little misleading......

Could I just say Bic has always made a bloody strong product, I have had and still have the 9 foot mal which is now almost 10 years old and looks as it did the day I bought it. I also used their sailboards (as did many people) which were bloody bulletproof. Now the difference is that they were heavier than the equivalent type of board made in the usual construction.

Hard to beat a Bic. It was also my first sailboard and they are now producing some awesome little sailing dinghies for the kids. Tough as a bundle of plastic pens wrapped in duct tape.

Just to clear it up, we manufacture all ACE-TEC and DURA-TEC boards in France at the same facility we've been at since the start in 1979. We do also offer boards made in Asia, just like everyone else, but what we do that's really unique is our exclusive ace-tec and dura-tec technologies which as many have pointed out are super durable (and ace-tec is quite light too!). Here's a video that talk about the brand history and some shots of the factory (Vannes, France - Brittany Coast)

That certainly looks like a capital expensive process , thermoforming and blowmoulding such large items !!

"Made in France" often seems to include Tunisia in French eyes ???

In the EU I think the place of origin is where the most value is added .
eg In the bicycle game an Italian spray painters wages are worth more than an asian built frame so its "italian" made

Actually, it is the place where the product is finally assembled from parts. Some brands are honest enough to be more precise (the oven I bought yesterday states "made in Sweden from parts from China"). But Bic has always made all its molded surf/surfboards in its Brittany plant, except for the ones made in traditional EPS + hand-glassed epoxy+glass ones.

The 9' Bic prone longboard is a killer design, especially since the shaper was a one of the greatest French shapers, Gerard Dabbadie.

We are racing 26km at the Gippsland Lakes Marathon Paddle next Saturday 4th May. Beyond that, the next major event will be the Peninsula Winter Classic - 10km downwinder. I think that should be in August.

PT is the Winter Classic on? Unfortunately I've had to pull out of this weekend due to a back issue that's stopped me paddling for over a month. Wasted airline ticket. The Winter Classic was heaps of fun last year. Ev and I had a ball and will certainly bring a bigger crew down this year.
Look out for Kieran this weekend. He's fast.
