Hey guys here is a video we made from a recent trip to Nusa Resort in New Ireland province of Papua New Guinea.
The first few minutes are of my mate and his family doing some exploring but then it cuts to our freediving and surfing clips.
I was the only paddleboarder on our visit so its not focused on SUP and we didnt get so many huge waves but if you're interested to visit PNG this will give you a good flavour
Brilliant Post!! How deep where you free diving and do you wear earplugs leather lungs? The surf looked excellent despite the crowd. Is it an expensive resort? Sorry about all the questions but I'm looking to take my kids somewhere nice.
Hey Leroy,
We freedived in a couple of locations. The old fighter plane (i believe its a Japanese Zero) is in about 12 meters of water but other spots on the reef we were going down to about 25 meters. No we dont wear earplugs just fins, mask and boardies thats all.
Nusa is not super expensive but once you add up the airfares, accomodations and extra costs it can be a bit. You tend to forget that you get charged a fee every time you go for a surf, which is good and bad because it also restricts the numbers on each break.
Theres often kids at Nusa when I go and they seem to enjoy it a lot. Lots of families are regular visitors.
Thanks for that Lobes! I'm still blown away by the free diving, my ears feel like they're going to explode at around 5 metres! New Ireland is still cheaper than Tahiti. I'll have to investigate further. Thanks again for the post and heads up. I always enjoy your posts from up New Guinea way, it seems like a pretty idyllic lifestyle.
Great video Lobes , brings back great memories from the filming at Nusa resort in 2009 of Living The Stoke , such a beautiful place. This is the trailer for the movie we shot and you can see Lobes at 1.12 in the Orange shirt. Insane free diving , love the dive with the brick. Good to see Jules the Toucan bird still around she used to come around in the mornings and steal our tooth paste. How good are those huts on the water just beautiful.
looks great - we were just in PNG and were in new ireland diving at lissenung
island resort before heading off all over the place - such an adventure !
no sup for us but lots of canoe paddling in the rivers and seas
Hey Leroy, yes you really have to be careful with your ears. You need to equalize them like you would when scuba diving or kind of like in an aeroplane descending. But if you do it early and often its no worries.
Piros, Shaun has done quite a bit of work on Nusa since we were there. The dining hall has been enlargened and there are a few new bungalows but its still the same idyllic vibe.
