One Mile Beach Port Stephens has been officially declared a military zone. All three Forces have fortified their positions on the beach and Charlie SUPs are excluded from the adjacent surf zone.

Oh, good thing is that even without the heavy artillery the whole beach is just one big nasty closeout. Anyone entering the waves is bound to get blasted anyway you look at it.

Maybe they will call off the mines and snippers so we can have it next week?

Wonder too if they did the full Apocolypse Now redux securing the beachhead? That would have been cool.

I was afraid of that - our run of good banks at One Mile for the state titles couldn't last forever. With small waves and light winds on the cards for late next week - maybe Birubi will be the go. Go check the banks there for us, will ya Shane-o!

I checked it a few days back at low tide with a big southerly swell and it was one long closeout. Absolutely nothing breaking off the phantom point. It did not look good for the military who are holding a combined forces comp there this week. There were a couple of SUP right up the beach on what could have been the odd right between some nasty dumpers. It looked that tragic to me that I gave it a miss and went around Fingal Bay and surfed the tiny left in the corner.

My guess is the "banks" might be better in smaller conditions. Strangely, some of th beaches have been looking better at high tide. This is definetly true for Boxy and Fingal.

As Birubi works best in winds NW-NE and is exposed to a SW, moving the surfing there this time of year is a hard call. Again, I would be more hoping One Mile gets better in the smaller early winter groundswells we could be in for.

Just looking at the long range forcast it looks like we might be in for an early week NE. The good thing is the acompanying E swell gets into One Mile at a good angle and could help settle what banks there are.

According to the forcasts it is looking more like we will get a NE later next week. Maybe Biribu might be the go? Nevertheless, a northerly swell gets straight into one mile. Providing the wind isn't too strong from the NE, which is directly onshore at One Mile, the surf might be OK.

Pity we can't see around corners?
