I was watching this video of the Wedge in California, thinking how crazy these guys are, then 3 minutes and 37 seconds into the video came the craziest of the bunch!!

I am not really a surfer, but I reckon even I can tell that is not a smart place for him to be no matter how good he is on a SUP. (not smart for him or anyone else)
Am I right ?
I thought it was pretty cool.. 
Maybe a bit stupid and irresponsible.. Maybe even dangerous.. but still pretty cool in my book.. That took guts and he did a pretty good job of it.. IMO.

It looks to me that the SUP got one of the more creditable rides. If he had been able to flick out or ride out the white water it would have been perfect.
It looks like if you get it right it's not that difficult. If you get it wrong ... 
Of course, in terms of payback the Wedge looks more like the kind of wave you ride just to say you've done it. There's not much of a ride or a barrel to get and you certainly don't get many turns in.
Once you got out - the hard part - I reckon it would be almost safer on a SUP than a short or long board. At least you could get into it early. If the thing smashes ya, kick the SUP out in front and hold on. Not as bad os pipe IMO.
At least these guys are local life guards and know what they are doing so I really don't think it was that dangerous. Running a SUP comp at Chopes IS dangerous!
lacey's got a point - I think one of those bodyboarders got killed that day at the Wedge, so they said on the news anyway.
