Thank you Santa for my PSH. The PSH range of Sups is unbelievable. I got some great advice from Jan Bruun and AA at Balmoral Boards - very helpful.
Thanks guys.
Length: 10'10"
Width: 33 3/4"
Thickness: 5"
Volume: 210 litres
Took it out for a quick flat water paddle early morning to get a feel for it.
I found this board to be super stable and can't wait to get it out into the surf.
Looks great mate. In my bucket list too.
You happy with quality and build ?
Merry Christmas to you and your family to bro......you know where's going to be good Tues - Thurs......perfect for this board if you have time for the drive.
Great looking board mate, keep us posted on how it goes in the surf. Like the song choice as well (STP)
cheers!!
Just when i thought i couldnt demo any more boards..............
Looks good actually I dont mind the colour now its not in the shop
Go hard
When will I get my first surf on my new Sup ?
That La Nina bitch has stuffed everything - onshore winds and howling southerlies. Calling on El Nino - come back and give us some off shore breezers and warmer temps please.
Yes - a truly beautiful thing....picked her up today.
PSH Hull Paddler 10'10" x 33 3/4 x 5.
Thanks to AA for his time and advice.
Thanks, glad you like my yard....my wife's retired Customs working dog being the Black Lab who has the life of riley these days after working his first 8 years for our Govt.
The board would weigh in at 14 - 14 1/2 kg I'd reckon - the 12'1 Laird is 13.8 kg and this would be slightly heavier IMO.
On the water it felt half that weight when spinning into position and on waves - it was ridiculously light under foot - much more so than the 10' Mana IMO.
I like the canary yellow Chris. Stoked we're in the PSH club now. I'm sure we won't look back. Up the coast on my 6th Bintang with the Mrs and just loving life. Just wondering WTF I did before Sup. How good is it ?
Tell me mate, what number Sup is this one for you ? I would love you to list all the Sup's you've picked up in ya time. Cheers
Scotty
Paddled the Shaka today in Eden Harbour weNt straingt towards the heads got to the 2 mtr swell and shat myself lol. Turned around and paddled back.
Went for a surf this arvo on the. Nalu and got smashed. Not
MY finest day on a sup
Remember boys if want to feel good about your SUP surfing come out with me! Ask Chris ... I rip ... NOT! Love the stoke but, and I wouldn't be out there on anything else but a SUP!
Haha - Berni....you da' man and I've never seen you go any way other than full on.....love it.
SHIRE (WANK) SUP, you ? A bad session on the Shaka ? Never.
That design even scares the sharks away my friend. Come home - miss ya'.
I went out a couple days back and had THE worst session ever - totally kooked it. Had an hour's GoPro footage and could only grab 1 minute of usable vision.....BUT, it's amazing that you can still make a crap session fun - check this video I made.....it did make me feel better and my wife think I was ripping on the day.
Can someone tell me, where does the Hull Paddler fit in the scheme of SUP's? I'm assuming it's a great paddler but doesn't surf anywhere near as well as the boards designed specifically for surf ....but it surfs way better than the racing paddling boards......but doesn't paddle anywhere near as well?
It fits into the 1-3 foot wave range for bigger SUP'rs (95kg plus) who want to cruise more gentle waves rather than vertical 4-6 foot waves where the Ripper would be the better choice.
The board is extremely loose and versatile for it's size and is a MUCH better option than say a 10' Mana or 10' Whopper - ****'s on both of them by a LONG way.....that's your market - also the 11'6 Nalu rider would take a lot from ditching it and getting the Hull Paddler.
I myself surf on a surfboard when the surf is over 3 foot as the thrill of duck diving set's, paddling into a trough and stalling under a lip are still a passion whereas getting caught inside a set with a paddle and being yanked by a leggie with a 10' plus boat are not what my hips need.
Think, waist high waves, fun with mates, long gentle walls, novelty spots, avoiding crowds....and that's where I see them and that's why I bought one.
This video was a classic example....4 days of northerly winds crushed the surf where I live so we took big boards to a south facing place just to get away from the wind knowing there would be not much swell but protection and total fun on these type of boards - I had a 10' Mana (replaced by the Hull Paddler now) and my mate who was learning was on a 11'6 Nalu.
Turned a non surf day into a total blast - a Hull Paddler type of day !
Great edit and video....please put my mind at rest and tell me where you are surfing those fun little waves?
Location: Fingal Bay, Port Stephens.
Happy to say I got out this arvo for my first Surf on a Sup ever. As predicted, the PSH Hull Paddler is super stable. 2-3ft waves with a SE blowing about 15kts so it was a touch bumpy out back. Not ideal conditions but I found it enjoyable and caught 4 waves (only rate 1).
Paddling out thru the break: I would struggle to fall off - very stable.
Surfing: I found it nice and loose to turn.
My first surf since G-Land circa 1995.
It was hard work but very rewarding and enjoyable.
Just stoked to be back out there.
The Hull Paddler is a much better surf Sup than paddle Sup. I ride the 10' 2" and rate it nearly as good as the 9'6" All Wave. For 95kg+, 50+ year olds with bad backs you can do all you need too. As Supanimals says they suit a particular purpose and do it really well!!
Finally I got glassy conditions with waist height waves at Birubi, Port Stephens.
Picked up a few good ones and can't fault the PSH. I am still finding my feet as I haven't surfed for 16 years but loving it all the same. Paddled BOP style in and out a few times (hard work) to get good feel and improve general balance, etc. and could not be happier with my purchase. I am 126 kg and 6'3 (thank God for the height),therefore, I am very 'top heavy' yet this board floats me with ease and I feel confident in it's stability. I can stand out the back waiting for waves for as long as I need to without falling off - thats how stable it is.
Scotty88...
Thank you for the GREAT video showing the 10'10 Hull Paddler from water level. I am very interested in the 10'2 Hull Paddler, but I live on Cape Cod, Ma. and I have been unable to locate any hull paddler anywhere near me... and I would drive 8 hours to see and touch one. Blane Chambers is great at designing boards but getting clear info on the paddlers is a challenge.
I was able to grab a lot of screen shots of every view of your board.
I really want to buy a 10'6" Extra wide Ripper because it matches my surf style, but I am a BIG man at 254 lbs, 6' tall and 63 years old. (By the way I was 260lbs five days ago when I finally saw a 10' Extra Wide Ripper. Ha... I now have a clear goal.)
I am not sure if If the Ripper will be stable enough for me in the New England winter. I surfed yesterday... 3 to 4' --- 26 degrees with 20mph offshore winds (No surf...today I will paddle for 2 hrs... high today will be 15 degrees : )
My view is different from most shapers because of Location, age, size and ability.
I currently ride a Starboard Avanti - 11'2" X 36" - 230 liters. ( I weighed 295 lbs when I bought it in July 2011)
I have ridden all the big Hurricane swells at N.E. point breaks and the HUGE Avanti was incredibly agile and fast. It is great at late double overhead drops, it NEVER pearls... it is fast down the line and pulls out around sections at speed.... but it is a LOT of board to come off the top with. I am ready to go to the next level. Just sketchy on the 10'6" XW Ripper being stable enough and I don't think the 10'11" XW Gun Ripper would be a big enough move.
Thought about the 10'4" AA X-wide but I really want less nose to throw around.
When I read about the Hull Paddlers... everyone keeps talking about them being a marginal surf SUP, with cruisy and uninspiring performance. But I am sure that they felt the same about the Avanti.
I suspect that the Hull Paddlers will prove to be a very agile SUP surfer when ridden by advanced paddlers over 255 lbs.(115kg)
I have always loved the Chine shape. My all time favorite longboard was the Stewart Hydro Hull.... but I kept breaking them in half - 2 in one day : ( - BUT the chines made it a truly high performance longboard.
I just wish I lived somewhere I could SEE them... A DEMO is absolutely out of the question.
I will have to buy one on Info alone...
If any of you Smiling Happy SUPpers have info, pics, stories that meet the following... please jump in : )
255 lbs (115kg)
Older would help... as it is a factor that only the old understand
Aggressive short board, Bigger wave style (I already have the longboard style SUP.)
An understanding of what COLD (below freezing)and wetsuits throw into the mix.
A need for stability... cuz when the waves around here are bigger... the wind is usually in the 20mph range.
Thanks again to Scotty88 for the great Vid!
If I can figure out the mechanics I'll attach a pic of me last summer on My 11'2' X 36" and a picture of the waves on Cape Cod 1/13/2012

I've written a couple of reviews and wraps for the Hull Paddler. I own a 10'2" and can guarantee that if you can surf you will be able to do anything you want to do. I've got some photos taken mainly on small days and with me just either cruising or setting up Re entry/top turn/bottom turn. They are really good to surf on if you have ability. The only problem with the width is the ability to do a cutback without using your feet to transition from rail to rail. If you keep them in the same place you will overbalance. They paddle well but surf much better. Like all PSH boards they weigh a bit. I've heard that the Hull Rippers are actually very unstable so be very wary of having enough width. They are extremely high performance boards more suited to guys who surf everyday and have a high level of ability. The paddlers can prep you for the transition to a wide Hull Ripper or a move down in size. Hope this helps!
