I am riding a PSH 9'6 WR and have found that the rail can tend to grab when taking off. Is there a particular fin set-up that I could use to potentially combat this? cheers

p.s. hilly your decision to sell the 12'er was a great one.......the big girl is in good hands.

Tell me in detail how and when on the take off. Is it a 2+1 or 5 fin ? You might be a little too foreward on it that board is fairly full up front compard to the Rippers.

Piros, 2+1 set up.

Seems to be early on in the take off, just as the wave hits, first couple of powerful strokes. on right handers especially i end up fading a little too much.

cheers

I also found this when I demoed this board originally, but as piros says doesnt do it so much on the rippers and that was the deciding factor for me and ended up going the 9'3.

You may need to switch to surfing stance earlier , when you paddle in square set the board rolls putting heaps of pressure on the rail and it will catch on the take off , practice paddling around with your feet slightly in surfing stance. It will help this.

Fin wise the Gerry Lopez tri set is a good choice but expensive. Try mid to large fins at the front with a rear around 5" or a 6 to 6.5" cut away at the rear , I don't like the large rears.

I also ride 9,6 wr and have for 12months all so board rips think your not back on the tail enough back slightly over the rail and it will turn quicker not bogging the rail , i ride thuster set up 2 small side fins and fcs pc3 in the middle ,completely different board goes like much shorter board bit slidey but thats the fun side of it you should try it you will be serprised . That's the key-get your back foot further back on the tail-it has quite fine foil towards the tail and is thickish through the middle-get back there and the board will ride off the tail and be very loose-it's not the fin set up doing it-that's a red herring IMO.

My wife has had the board for 2 years and I have a ride now and then.

Hey SUP 8383, yes what the boys are saying is also my experience.
I rode this board for 18 months and still go back to it.
It is a keeper.

Keep in mind it will float up to 100kg so if you want it to jump to life - step back.
Going to surf stance a bit earlier in the take off will also help.

The fin recommendations will improve looseness and drive when you step back.

Hit the sweet spot and there is not much this board cannot do.

Are you a natural footer and the left rail (forward of centre) is digging in? or opposite for goofy?
If so I'm pretty sure I know the answer.
