Looks nice - have you measured flatwater speed on it? What is a good flatwater speed anyway? 7-8-9km/h?

Interesting concept...
very narrow wave piercing bow
minimal rocker
square rails with minimal radius top edge & round below
flat decks
fin set well back
looks slick.........

but i think i've seen that sort of shape before somewhere?

Duno about that cut off tail though

I paddled it in everything from 20 knots Down wind to nice glassy water yesterday and it went pretty good in all of it.

When the board arrived i was just about to go for a DW paddle and thought why not take it i know its not meant for full DW conditions but was worth ago. Yes the board is tippy but over 9km i fell of twice and yes the nose was under allot on the DW run but it was doable. I think the other 14 glide would have been quicker in the conditions i was in but i think with about 10knots behind you this board will fly as a light wind DW board.

Then just after work me, ang and 2 mates took it for a paddle we also took the old 14 glides, we did a 8km paddle and the difference was huge!!!!! even ang who i can usually beat on any board absolutely smoked us. We were working super hard and and she was just cruising. In a straight out sprint it just pulls away from the other glide but then when you settle in to a stoke it just fly's away.

I timed a 1km run and in to a 15knot head wind and strong current against me, it came to 6:15

Boards weight is a bit lighter than the other 14 glide but still looks super durable like the other glides

Yes i am sponsored of Naish and i do sell Naish

Jacko

Any questions on this board i'm more than happy to answer them

i was able to have a quick paddle. it's going to do well for naish. it's a little tippy, but that goes away once you are up and going.paddles fast and up wind it just eats it. move the fin as forward as you can get it

More to the point, how much did you get for your slightly scratched trade-in?

I have been looking at this type of board for some time.

I have a few questions for the learned guys?

1) The photos taken look like at St Kilda Pier in pretty flatish conditions is it a DW or FW designed board?

I ask this question as we have what is suposed to be a flatwater river board that is not supposed to work in chop waves etc that is remarkably similar in shape rocker and other aspects except for the tail and smokes along in rougher conditions with lighter weight on it.

2) Has anyone take it out in serious chop yet if so how did it go?

3) What is a realistic weight range for the rider? 80 - 95kg

4) Looks like a very narrow thin based fin, do deeper more raked fins provide more stability in your opinion. What fins have you tried what was the best and why do you think it worked out that way?

Hi phil
I took it out in some serious chop yesterday and although i sayed on i would not recommend this board for DW in any thing over 15 knots. I'm only a light weight at 75kg and the board is quite rolly so i'm sure if you are a heaver rider it would be even more tippy. Even some of the guys who paddled it yesterday fell of in the flat water when they started out and when they loaded it up with a big stroke they would get of balance. That did pass after about 10 mins on it.

I like what Naish have done you can have 2 race boards one for the full on days and one that flys in the calmer days.

We also had a guy paddle it who was in th 90kg range and it went just as good as when i paddled it.

Yo Jacko/DJ, Yeah similar questions to Phil,

I'm 95 kg looking for a 14' board for heavy winds (20knt+) but only smallish swell height (> knee)

Also want to do some longer inter-island paddles, maybe up to 30km in a range of conditions (but rarely if ever big swells). This is looking like it might be a better option than the DW 14', fair to say?

Also how will this board compare to the 17' Glide?

IMO..as far as down-winding on it.. Don't even think about it.. For what you want you'd be much better on the 14' Glide.

I struggled to paddle back from the breakwater to the beach in one foot waves.. I almost fell at least half a dozen times.. It's hard work and you really need to concentrate.. Lighter people will find it much easier I'm sure.

It's so different to the 17 it's not funny.. The 17 is so stable and such a different board.

The 14' Javelin is a race board for flat water.. It will be interesting to see if people use it in the BOP this year.. Those with better skills than me might be ok.

Hi all,

Don't read if you aren't into naish, as you will red thumb me.

After paddling against the boys yesterday and blowing them away LOL ! I took the jav for my usual training paddle up Currumbin Creek, it's 8km and usually takes me about 57min to 1hour ish depending on conditions.
On jav it was a whole different story . I'm not going to post my time as jacko is out doing the same paddle now as he was shocked at my time. I had a runout tide and headwind on the paddle up the creek but when i turned it was all behind me. My time was pretty normal at turning point and i was thinking, crap that's no good but then i looked at my time halfway back and i couldn't believe how quik i was going.
I can only say the time i just did blew me away!! I still had more in tank if i needed aswell.

I'm in love with the Jav.

I've ridden a whole different type of race boards over my time from 17ft - 12'6 but this is it for me. The whole fact that the boys couldn't catch me last night was PRICELESS.

Yes i ride naish and sell naish aswell as many other.

Yeah i agree with DJ for heavy winds go the 14 or 17 they will out proform this new 14 in those conditions. For how tippy it was when i first jumped on i was quite surprised how well i stayed on in a 20 knot DW run. Just did a 8km run that usally takes around 54 to 58 mins in 47:44 so i would say it's a fair bit quicker.

Hey DJ from that vid you need to move forward a bit and you'll find it will go quicker again. When you paddle it should have full water line from nose to tail and there should be a perfect barreling wave coming off the nose. I stand on the edge of the rough part of the grip where rough meets smooth.

Looks super quick to me.

Can't wait to see it in the battle of the sprints at the Roar 200m sprintathon. Great timing for this one eh. A 14' flatwater race event just after Naish releases it's new 14' flat water board. Any wonder the Naish team riders were being coy on details and release dates, no ones got competitive spirit around here have they??

I imagine this board will send people scrambling for the fastest fixed fin 14' flat water only board they can make and the end result will be faster boards for us all. Aint progress grand!!!

I'm taking odds on Trav vs Peasey vs Jacko vs Billy to take it out...... Let the games begin.

Thanks Jacko.. I was thinking that myself.. It's so much easier to watch some else and tell if they're too far forward or back.. I noticed that when I moved forward the release off the tail was a lot more clean.

I was in a huge rush to get a paddle in before I started work and mucking around with the vid took extra time.. Next time I'll play around more with my position on the board.

Not sure if I calculated correctly but Jacko' time equates to 10.1km/h over 8km?

Was there any wind, current, swell or is this true flatwater speed? Speed sounds amazing - we race around some canals over here which are super smooth and I think the Javelin will be the weapon of choice for sure.

(apologies for previous repeat messages - net was hanging and I pressed submit a few times....hahahaah)

Strong current and wind against me one way but off course whats against one way is with on with on the way back.. The biggest advantage i could see is punching in to the wind and tide and the way it just glides.
