Thought I should share some photo's of my pimped up windsurfer now SUP board.
$10 for the board $43 for the paddle $4 for the paint.
Great for balance practice so when I do get a new board I hope to start on something shorter than 11".

hi Greenroom,
Yep I have been practicing at the marina with my son. I have been looking out for you on the weekends.
This old windsurfer is 11'2" long and about 4"and a quarter thick.
I'm not sure of the volume however it floats me just fine. I'm 84kg.The only negative is that it weighs a ton.

Cheers

26" is super narrow....when u get on a reg28 - 30 sup, it's going to fell like a luxury liner.

Hi Rev,
I used a permanent spray on adhesive for the deck pad. Seems to be working so far.
The deck pad is just some packaging high density foam I had in my shed.

Yes deffinatly...IMO...For a lot of reasons.

After two years of using windsurfers..and large Mal's.. (before SUP boards were available here) I now know just how much better a real SUP board is.

They others will get you on the water..and be a lotta fun..but only in very flat water.

The minute it gets a bit choppy or rough you need that extra width that you only get with the real SUP boards.

Anyway..that's what I think..

Thanks for your opinion DJ i respect it with regard to your experience.
I guess i keep looking for answers that will put off the enevitable BIG SPEND.
All opinions on various forums say the same (a windsurf board will get you wet but its not the real deal) cheers mate.

My concern is that if you go out and buy a new board without any water time you will generally be talked into purchasing the biggest, widest board available.
From all reports, if you intend to surf more than flat water paddle you will outgrow
this in no time and be up for $ on a smaller board. IMO

Hi Si, windy here under a different alias.....

if you intend to surf in pure glass conditions only, go as small as poss.

the second there is the remotest bit of chop, you'll be glad for the extra inchs...

Hey Si, have u tried paddleboardkiting.....i've never kited but my mates got a trainer kite and i'm thinking....hmmmmmmmmm new variation???? probably have to do a downwinder though, unless i put a centreboard on it [}:)]

I think you will be surprized...It should go up wind ok..even not planning..There's a lotta rail there to help stop going sideways.

BTW...Don't mean to hi-jack but...

I was sup'ing down at St Kilda pier today and the Redbull F1 guys were all there having a funtion..I was sup'ing around while the TV camera's were clicking away...and they often zoomed in on me.....Even when Vettle was being interviewed he looked over his shoulder and saw me standing there on the water and did a double take..and almost forgot what he was saying..

I was just listening in on the interviews...Not trying to get my picture taken or anything...I'm a big F1 fan...Shame Webber was not there...Go Webber!!

I'll be checking the news tonight.......btw..Lewis is smaller than a hobbit..

Hey thanks for that Ian..I've not seen any pics here...not that I've been looking.

It's funny...after talking to Lewis some of the McLaren Mercedes guys came down to me and asked me about my board.

They said " What are you doing out there on the water?"..I said just paddling around..Why?..They said that they thought I was a 'Shark spotter'...

How good does the water look in the pic......Shame they didn't get a better angle..showing all the topless girls on the beach..

DJ

btw...I would have looked like a gaint next to Lewis..I'm 6'4" and he only came up to my waist....I'm sure they even find short girls for him for pics like this.

I must have been only just out of view in this pic..
