Just looking into flights and accomm for this and wondering if anyone has anymore info on what the schedule will look like. Surfing Australia website says the surfing and racing willbe on Sunday & Monday.
Do you recon Surfing Australia are taking the piss out of us charging $100 per event? For a comp with no prize money!! Something like the BOP that can be run in about 1hr cost the same as the surfing that gets run over the whole time!! Hard for it not to seem like a money grab!! I thought the surfing QLD one was pretty $$$$ for what was on offer but this seems like another level!! I'm happy to pay top dollar for comps if people get there moneys worth out of it, i pay only a little more to go in the BOP at Cali and they have good prize money internet coverage and good goodies bag and a great set up!!
I'll still pay to do it but it dosen't sit that well doing it!! What did it cost for the NSW tittles or the SA tittles any one know?
By the way i just found out that entrys close in 3 days!! so if you are going make sure you get your entry in other wise you will miss out!!
NSW was $55 for Surfing which included full repecharge in every division so everyone got to surf twice.
...and $120 for all 5 races (technical sprint, long course, short course, dash for cash and the relay) or $30 per race. And there was a total of $8k prize money on offer for the racing too.
Yeah is BS. Plus the SUP surfing is $150 if you enter in the Surfing QLD site or $175 if you enter on the Surfing Australia site.
I thought the cost was a bit steep , would have liked to surf at leat twice.I new going in the likely hood of that was remote so i wasnt to dissapointed. The event still got good numbers though expecially the old farts category.I guess these type of state qualification events are not for the masses though. If you got selected for QLD i would have thought Surfing Queensland would pay your entry Fee though.
I agree the prices are getting a bit one sided in the surfing for sure.
It would be great to see real State teams come out of the State events. Subsidized entry and some State kit, this would be a good prize for the qualifying surfers and racers. Not sure how the State and National surfing is set up financially maybe this makes it tough?
It sounded like the Snowy had a great grab bag of goodies for each competitor this year!
Just found out from Surfing WA entry for racing (both technical and marathon) is $70 and surfing is $121. Also mentioned is that team uniform is provided.
In the defenceof the state branches if they were to subsidise everyone across the year they would be forking out a lot of money when you think about how many representatives travel from each state throughout the year (mals, shortboarders, SUPs and then the divisions within each).
To combat this they could make entry fee's a lot more acessible.
Do the guys going to the ISA World Games have to pay their own way or does Surfing Australia kick in at that point?
Reading through the entry details sent out by surfing Australia and noticed that pfd's are compulsory for the marathon, was this the case for any if the state qualifiers and does anyone know if type 1 (bumbag style) is acceptable?
Pfd were compulsory for the Nsw titles to meet state maritime requirements. They provided the inflatable waist ones for use for the event, so I'm guessing that because the Aussies are in nsw that the same maritime rules apply and bumbags will be ok (but you might want to check with surfing Australia first).
Sounds good Noel but none of the that rubbish NSW beer....
and Goatie getting bumped in the over 40's but qualifying for the open , Legend effort.
Nice choice Rob, count me in mate.
I agree with Noel, should be part of the rule book. Just not sure with the choice of beer though.
Mmmmm!
I found scotch and dry worked a treat before last years event, out for the count after two heats and a total wave count of three. Was however feeling no pain!! God help me I'm backing it up again this year. Will be surfing in the Open and am still hoping to snaffle a spot in the Over Forties if there is a no show or two.
Will once again be setting up the Victorian branch of the Stand Up Tent Embassy in the local cara park. Feel free to drop in and slum it. Jeeeeez I hope the weather is better than last year!
Cheers
Sparx
Looking good Richo , the two worst Ratbags have qualified some through fortunate affrication to defend Queensland in the over 40's .Bring on the alcohol fuelled pre Surf drink and this will be our team song (Qld 70's Band The Saints) as we stumble down the beach to the finals. To defeat all those that stand in front of us.
Here you go Noel , these guys were formally from Adelaide but moved to Sydney later on "The Angels"
Pretty good tune to play as you walk down the beach to the final.
